Types Of Pavement

Flexible Pavement: The earthen, gravel, water bound macadam and Bituminous roads are also known as flexible pavements because the top surface takes the shape of the sub-surface soil.

Rigid Pavement: The Cement Concrete roads are known as rigid Pavements because of their stiffness and their capacity to bridge over loose soil pockets in the sub-grade.

Merits of Road

It is Economical structure. It is very convenient for passenger

and small goods Transport. Destination and starting points are

not necessarily defined. Small vehicles can be driven on

roads for personalized transport.

Demerits of Road

Tractive resistance of wheels of vehicles to the road Is more, hence there is early wear to the road pavement.

Overall maintenance of road is more. There is a speed limit or speed is

restricted. It is suitable for small distance only.
