Miv Watts is a British Interior Decorator with thirty years of decora t ing and Home Sty l ing experience. Initially coming from a diploma in Window Display at the College of Distributive Trades in London, she worked for Burberrys and Scotch House moving into Film and TV in the late seventies. She worked as a Stylist for many London production companies and moved, with her children, to Sydney in the early eighties. From here she worked as an Art Director/Costume Designer on various Feature Films and TV series including 22 part “Return to Eden”and many US co produced Coca Cola commercials.

Miv can can take an empty shell and create a sense of Home and beauty, supplying everything from flooring,fabrics and bespoke furniture to the most exquisite detail:

Returning to the UK in the early 90s, Miv completely re-furbished Brockhurst Manor in Sussex UK, and later worked on several decoration projects for David Rocksavage, Marquess of Cholmondeley at Houghton Hall, Norfolk. She went on to re-furbish The Victoria at Holkham which featured as one of Tatler’s 10 best bout ique hote ls in 2002. Further boutique hotel work involved The Bath Arms at Longleat for Hillbrooke Hotels. Here she used Longleat’s own colorful proprietor The Marquess of Bath as Inspiration for the colonial interiors.

Following this Miv renovated and re-designed the Family Wing of one of Britain’s stateliest houses. Holkham Hall was designed by William Kent for the Earl of Leicester Thomas Coke and completed in 1764.

Returning from The Grand Tour in 1718, Thomas Coke had acquired many great works of art and set about building a grand edifice to house them. In 2008 Miv worked with the present Thomas Coke to give the private apartments the warmth, comfort, and lightness required for a young family in a modern world. Naturally respecting the magnificence of her forebears she worked out of India to find the finest artist’s and craftsmen to execute her designs for the hand painted wallpaper and bespoke Mother of Pearl and inlaid furniture to the 40 foot carved stone table and thrones for the Holkham Orangery.






Having worked on three projects out of India, Miv has built a huge network of craftsman and suppliers willing to work with her on specific projects to create something unique, beautiful, well crafted and practical.

With her team she is able to design and produce rugs and dhurries for specific areas and to block print and design bespoke fabrics and furniture as individual pieces for her projects.

Our beds have been particularly in demand. The Peacock Maharajah bed being the favorite. Some beds Miv designs from old architectural pieces she finds on her travels . “We can use doors, old carved ceilings , and anything unusual and interesting that we are able to up cycle into a useable piece of furniture today.”

Sourcing and up cycling is Miv’s passion and part of her belief that beauty is not

necessarily attained by throwing money at a project and, in order to keep an integrity and authenticity in design she likes to employ true craftsmen with a passion for what they do, combined with natural, chemical free materials that breath and age beautifully over time. Miv is not about fashion. Miv is a pioneer of style and good taste.

Coming from a background in film and character study, Miv feels she has the perfect qualifications to understand her clients requirements and to achieve an individual interior that reflects the client”s true personality. She feels she is the conduit to a balanced and comfortable environment.

COMING FROM A STYLIST BACKGROUND......

I am used to working on the run, thinking quickly and juggling meagre budgets. We all love to work with big budgets but small budgets mean real creative thinking.

I work well with indigenous people and enjoy being on the factory floor as much as being in the some of the more lavish homes I have designed. I like pulling people together from different backgrounds, skills, and cultures and firing them up with the enthusiasm to get things done.






I Like to mix it up a bit. Break all the rules. I like theatre and humor in my interiors, and then I like exotic and decadent, and some times I can be quite straight laced!

Color is important to me:I have tried to do that white thing but then I go crazy for color! Same as food, it is kind of health giving.

I am not a corporate designer. I work with clients looking to create individual spaces.I specialize in creating spaces that may seem as if they have evolved over a hundred years.

RECENTLY LIVING AND WORKING IN FRANCE....

Has meant I am nearer my hunting ground for decorative pieces. I began to source 18th Century mirrors and furniture for private clients and antique textiles for period films and costumes.

Now I have a wide choice of suppliers and dealers that look out for special pieces for me. I am on site for the three big antique fairs Montpellier, Beziers, and Avignon, and an hour and a half from Isle sur la Sorgue the well known “Antique Village”.

Twice a year Paris holds the gigantic Maison Objet design exhibition. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Has a vast collection of fabrics, and trimmings. We make bespoke sofas to individual designs, we have a full curtain making service and work with well respected furniture restorers and cabinet makers.

We consider detail in everything we undertake and enjoy challenges and unusual projects. Miv will be happy to consult on any project.






I love using layers with varying textures and colors. Creating mosaics with images....making a place for the eye to find interest.
