PACKO ICE BUILDER The reliable solution for the instant cooling with ice water

Why using ice water ?

Application

Ice water, as refrigerant, is mainly used in the food and beverage industries, in bakeries, industrial kitchens, etc. but also in the non-food sector such as chemistry, bio-technology...

Advantages of the ice builder

• A fast cooling of the product • Intensive cooling without risk of freezing of the product• Smaller cooling unit required thanks to the accumulation of ice storage during several hours • It is possible to store the ice during the night at a cheap electricity rate • Large energy buffer (battery), ideal in combination with alternative energy such as solar panels• Ice water is available at the start of the cooling process

Range of Fullwood Packo ice builders

Fullwood Packo can supply ice builders from 8 kWh up to 370 kWh.

Ice water is used since many years for cooling of food products and for process cooling in general because ice water has the capacity to cool down large quantities of product in a short time. In an ice builder a big amount of energy can be stored on a small surface. This compact unit can produce a large quantity of ice water of 0.5 à 1°C. For several applications, there is no risk of freezing the product.

How does an ice builder operate?

• The ice builder is filled with water.• The refrigerant is sent into the copper tubes of the evaporator and

allows to form cilindrical shaped ice layers around the tubes. • The ice thickness is regulated: when the maximum thickness is

reached, the cooling unit stops. • At that moment a maxim of energy storage is available and the

water has a temperature of 0.5 °C.• If there is a demand for cooling, the ice water will be pumped to

the consumer. The warmed ice water returns to the ice builder in a closed circuit and is sprayed over the evaporator. This warmer water melts down the ice.

• To have an evenly melting down of the ice, air is blown at the bottom of the ice builder by the air blower.

• Once the minimum ice thickness is reached (after melting down) the cooling unit can restart.

• The ice building can also be programmed by means of a time clock (ice building within a certain period until the maximum ice thickness has been reached).
