1. Plug laptop into modem using crossover UTP cable

Using cross over LAN cable (Ethernet UTP), plug your laptop LAN interface into the modem’s LAN interface.

2. Set your laptop Ethernet interface to automatic

Set your LAN interface to automatic (DHCP).

3. Check your IP address

Go to start menu

Go to run

Type the following command “cmd” and click the button labelled “ok”

Type the following command “ipconfig” and hit enter

Confirm your IP address looks like the screenshot below.

4. Run ping to modem LAN IP

Run ping to the modem and confirm you receive a reply from it.

Note:

If you do not see a reply you need to wait until you see a reply before moving to

the next step.

5. Load Shiron Drop&Insert application

Double click Shiron Drop&Insert icon on your desktop.

Type in the password: shiron

and click button labelled “ok”

You will be presented with the Drop&Insert main interface screen

6. Start the pointing application

Start the pointing application by choosing the Monitoring tab

The Monitoring screen looks like the following

The Pointing application has two meters. The signal Level Meter helps to locate the satellite and the CNR meter helps to fine tune the antenna pointing after the correct satellite has been

found.

Signal Level: Indicates the strength of a satellite’s signal.

CNR Level: Indicates the strength of the satellite signal you need to lock on too.

Click the button labelled “Start Installation mode”

7. Find the satellite

Using the “Signal Level Meter” start to move the antenna until you see the signal level start to rise.

The signal level rising means that your antenna is looking at a satellite.

When the antenna is pointing at the correct satellite the Signal Level meter will be very high and you should start to see the level on the CNR meter start to rise.

If the modem can lock onto the satellite signal both meters will turn green.

Fine tune your antenna pointing by watching the CNR level.

When you have achieved optimal levels lock off all the bolts on your antenna tight so the antenna will not move.

8. Final Step

You now need to call Pacific Teleport’s network operators to finalise the commissioning of your modem.

You will need to advise the operator the serial number of your modem which is written on the back of the modem.
