REMINDER FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS: when you pick up your stu-dent, you MUST sign them out AND speak to someone in the front office, please. We have had over half dozen parents just in the past month take their kiddos and not sign them out and that means that we are taking a lot of time tracking those students down. Questions? Please talk to our front office.

Eagles After Hours is Amazing!
Eagles After Hours, our after school program, has been doing amaz-
ing things at our school for almost 15 years. Christie Brucher, our
program manager, has been at the helm for every year. She at-
tends the Wellington Chamber of Commerce meetings, advocates
for our school everywhere she goes and represents us in a variety of
ways all over northern Colorado. On a cold and windy November
night, the Town of Wellington invited her to their meeting and an-
nounced that, due to her work, and the incredible support of Wel-
lington teens, EAH was being given $10,000 by Wellington! What
an amazing gift for our school!
Eagles After Hours is completely grant funded. There is no support
from Poudre School District for our after school program nor has
there ever been. This “grass roots” program has been a leader in
innovation, ideas and work for years. Funders include the Bohe-
mian Foundation, McKinney, the WMS Annual Golf Tournament,
Amanda McGee, Cameron, Curtis Bridges, Bruce Williams, Dr. Bob
Peskind at Rocky Mountain Infectious Disease Clinic, the Welling-
ton Town Board, Gannett Foundation, Taco John’s in Wellington,
Wellington Farmer’s Market and the Wellington Chamber of Com-
merce.
Teachers and staff at Wellington teach classes in EAH and we have
several community members who volunteer: Gary Turell, Kyle
Griffin, CSU Students, Sandra Wolf, and others. This program im-
pacts upwards of 200 students each night and all are active partici-
pants in EAH. We offer a quick snack and get right to work in aca-
demic and non-academic classes, most full to capacity. Christie
moves around the school, assuring attendance and compliance with
the expectations for participation. (Continued on next page)

We need volunteers!
We are really in need of volunteers for the vision/
hearing screening on December 15th, which is a Tues-
day from about 7:45-10:45. In order for this event to
run smoothly and efficiently, we need about 10 vol-
unteers. If you can help us, please contact our
Health Tech, Aimee Mohr at 488-6610 as soon as
possible! Thank you!
BIG thank you to McDonald’s Restaurant, in Wellington, for
your continued support of our Academic All-Stars. These
students, who earn all 4’s for a quarter grading period, are
treated to lunch and dessert at the restaurant. Thank you
for giving our students a treat and a great walk to the res-
taurant! Students get to pick anything off the menu to eat
and drink and then get a dessert treat for the walk back to
school! Big thanks to the management!
From Deputy Remington, our School Resource Officer: As a
Christmas present to all of you, I would like to share a safety
measure. In the event of an emergency in your area, if you have a
home phone, you would receive a reverse 911 call, alerting you of
the danger and giving you instructions. But in this day and age,
many of us no longer use a hard telephone
line. If you are only using cell phones, we can
get these messages to you as well, but you need
to register. Please take a few minutes to go on
http://www.leta911.org and register your cell
phones. This will assure you receive important
safety information in timely manner. Happy
2016!

SmartFit at WMS
Message from one of our volunteers for moms: My name is McKenna Smouse
and I am a graduate student at Colorado State University in the Health and
Exercise Science Department. I believe that you, as a mother, have a unique
opportunity to affect change in your family and community. If you are like most
moms, you are the decision maker at the grocery store, the provider of meals,
and the shuttle service to and from all activities for your children. When you
decide to provide healthy options with each meal, encourage your children to
partake in physical activity and teach your children to love their bodies, you
can affect real change in the world by raising a generation of Smart Fit Chil-
dren.
I am organizing an extension to Smart Fit Girls, that is offered at Eagles Af-
ter Hours, that involves the mothers of SFG participants (you!). Each week, we
will meet and discuss how to live healthy. We will discuss physical activity, eat-
ing healthy as a family, and how to foster positive body image for yourself and
your daughter(s). We will also discuss how to have challenging conversations
with your daughter (for example; what to do when your daughter tells you she
thinks she is fat) and the positive impact doing so will have. If you
are interested in being a part of this program in Spring 2015, please contact me
either by email ([email protected]) or phone (970.618.6378).
What is the IB Program? PSD offers parents and students numerous options for
academic programs throughout the district. The International Baccalaureate
(IB) program at Poudre High School is one of those choices.
Join the administrative staff of Poudre High School’s IB Program for an informa-
tional session to help you and your student make the best educational choice for
you. Hear from current IB students and parents as we share the benefits of an IB
education and answer your questions about IB at Poudre High School.

Big thank you to the Wel-
lington Chamber of Com-
merce, who came to our
school to give Eagles After
Hours a fundraising check
for $2,000! All funds will
be used to support our af-
ter school programming.
Thank you for your support of our annual “Turkey Round Up”
for our very own Wellington Food Bank. Wellington Middle
School donated over 50 turkeys on November 19th and our Tur-
key Wrangler, Mr. Peisner worked with Mr. Gabbert, our coach,
to “wrangle” those frozen turkeys from our school to the food
bank. Thank you for support our families in need and helping
everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving this year!
