Dedication of the Lateran Basilica

Veterans Day

NOV. 11, 2014

Heavenly Father, On this day, help us remember those who gave of themselves to keep us safe and secure. Enkindle in our consciences a desire

to serve those who served their country selflessly. Give us the grace to aid those who have given aid and protection to us and others

both here and overseas. Let us never forget the causes for which they fought or the bravery they showed on the battlefield. May we be always be mindful of those who paid the price for our freedom, just as your Son gave his life

to free us from the bondage of sin. Amen.

FRESH BREWED FAITH — The Lateran Basilica

The Lateran Basilica is one of the most stunning of the four major Roman churches. It’s history as the

cathedral of Rome puts it in great favor. In the same way that Blessed Sacramental Cathedral is the

cathedral of Detroit, the Lateran Basilica is the pope’s cathedral. The land for it was given by the emperor

Constantine and it was built in 311 AD. The modern St. Peter’s in Rome was constructed in the 16th

century. This church is a place of learning even today. Try to take some time someday to visit our Detroit

cathedral. It is the home of the bishop and contains a variety of styles. Some love the structural differences

that it has while others struggle to see its beauty. Fr. Bob

WINTER COATS, CLOTHES,

BOOTS & SHOES WANTED Like it or not, Old Man Winter is knock-

ing on the door. Please help the Capuchins aid the less fortunate in Detroit by donating

gently used (clean) shoes, boots, coats and warm clothes in any size.

Collection boxes are in the vestibule and at the side entrance during the month of November. Please be generous and help warm up the bodies and hearts of

our brothers and sisters in need. Thank you.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CORNER Thank you, thank you, thank you! The past few weeks have found the church clothed with the warmth of brand new children’s socks and mittens. Your generosity is evident. The boxes are FULL and will be donated to the All Saints Soup Kitchen in Detroit. No doubt many children in Detroit and the surrounding area will be a little bit

warmer this year. God bless you for your help!

Our Thanksgiving food drive to help the Trenton Food Pantry has begun. Each class is assigned a different item to collect, as they are able. Thank you in advance!

Children in designated grades will be preparing the ornaments for the Giving Trees that will adorn the church after Thanksgiving.

Save the dates: Potluck/movie night, after the 4 pm Mass on Nov. 15. Happy Birthday, Jesus! Party with potluck/movie, 5 pm Dec. 13. Children’s Christmas Play, 7 pm, Dec. 16. Have a Blessed Week,

Dennae Petrlich
