one of those faithful few who bless the lives of others with a simple thank you note or better yet, a nice long newsy letter? Thanks—or no thanks—to text messaging and email, handwritten letters are becoming a thing of the past. It is true that we welcome any contact with those we love, but will future generations thrill to the familiar handwriting on a letter in the mail from someone special?

Consider writing as a new year activity! Get a new pen, some inviting paper (Lines or no lines? Colors or white? Big tablets or little stationery?), and a cup of tea (or beverage of your choice) and begin. No one expects the Nobel prize winning work of 88-year old Doris Lessing, who wrote her entire life, was “intellectually restless, curious about the changing world around us.” At Country Meadows we have a group of people who meet every other week to write “their story.” With a little coaching from their friend Judith, they record their life experiences on paper to share with others, especially their family members and friends, who enjoy

NEW YEAR all that they have to share.

Not all of us have a writing coach available to us. But we can still write! Just put pen to paper—you could start with a list—well, some-thing more than groceries—what about a list of goals? It is said that when we write down things that matter to us, it is a conscious affirmation that we are interested in living our lives fully and with intention. Write down positive things you would like to think about or see happen in your life or

the lives of those you love. Record your day; recount your blessings.

Whatever your aims for this new year, bringing little moments of joy into the lives of others can be a by product of the things you decide to do for your-self. Use those new pens and paper to improve the

life of someone you know by sending them a little note. It can be a note to someone you wish you could see more often. It can be a thank you for a smile shared that brightened your day. You can make this a happy new year by investing in the lives of others, one little note at a time! Now pick up that pen...

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

My idea of perfect happi-

ness is being on the beach

with my boyfriend Zach

and puppy Zelda. She

loves to run and jump in

the water but come run-

ning right back to make

sure we are still there. It's absolutely hilarious to

watch. What is

your most treasured

possession?

My most treasured possession is my puppy

Zelda. She has brought so much happiness to

my household.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?

What someone might be surprised to know about me is that I played softball for 14 years! I could play just about every position and miss playing!

What has impressed you the most about working at Encore?

The thing that has impressed me the most about working at Encore Communities is the family

that I have built while working here!

If you could have dinner with anyone, past or present, who

would it be?

If I could have dinner with anyone from the

past it would definitely be my grandpa. I wish I could tell him all about

everything that has happened since he

passed.

What is your favorite journey?

My favorite journey is the long drive from Pouls-bo to Yakima. We make it about once a year to

go visit my great-grandma who lives there! I love the hills and fruit stands along the way!

I grew up a big sister to two younger brothers, Brett (age 20) and Adam (age 14).

I grew up in Poulsbo my whole life and graduated from North Kitsap High School in 2013. I live in Bremerton with my boyfriend

Zach and puppy Zelda. I enjoy getting together with my family often as my aunts and uncles and cousins live in Poulsbo as

well so it's always a big affair when everyone comes together.

places she used to live and with her warm and beauti- ful smile, she

HERE’S TO YOUR HEALTH!

Peggy Reece

Happy New Year At the beginning of each year, we pledge to be better to ourselves and to others;

we think about our health holistically, and about setting goals for our physical,

personal and professional improvement. These little gems came from an article

Live beneath your means. Return everything you borrow. Stop blaming other

people. Admit it when you make a mistake. Give clothes not worn to charity.

Do something nice and try not to get caught. Listen more; talk less. Every day

take a 30 minute walk. Strive for excellence, not perfection. Be on time.

Don’t make excuses. Don’t argue. Get organized. Be kind to people.

Be kind to unkind people. Let someone cut ahead of you in line. Take time to

be alone. Cultivate good manners. Be humble. Realize & accept that life isn’t fair.

Know when to keep your mouth shut. Go an entire day without criticizing

anyone. Learn from the past. Plan for the future. Live in the present.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. it’s small stuff.
