developed in a collaboration with Kingdom Holdings – one of thelargest manufacturers of hemp in China – in order to reduce thecompany’s reliance on cotton.

There are many challenges involved in working with hemp,Naveena says, but vertically-integrated spinning operations haveenabled it to create blended yarns of cotton, hemp and Tencelcontaining only 49% cotton.

Both Rajby Industries and Soorty have now achieved Cradleto Cradle Gold certification for denim fabrics in their collections,as a globally recognised measure of safer, more sustainable productsmade for the circular economy.

To receive this certification, products are assessed forenvironmental and social performance across five criticalsustainability categories – material health, material reuse, renewableenergy and carbon management, water stewardship, and socialfairness. The standard encourages continuous improvement overtime by awarding certification on the basis of ascending levels ofachievement and requiring certification renewal every two years.Aniline free

Advance Denim has meanwhile become the first denim millin China to launch a collection made with aniline-free indigo.

As a result of its toxicity, analine is now starting to featureon the restricted substance lists (RSL) of some of the major clothingbrands and retailers.

During traditional indigo dyeing process, some aniline stayslocked into the indigo pigment and is difficult to wash off the fabric, while the remainder is discharged with the wastewater. The newprocess being employed by Advance Denim is based on an aniline-free indigo formulation from Switzerland’s Archroma.

Italy’s Berto also introduced pre-reduced indigo dyeing in anexpanded range of denims based on GOTS-certified fabrics madewith organic cotton and regenerated yarns.

“Our latest collection was inspired by young people – the ZGeneration that is free spirited but at the same time involved in thefight against climate change,” said Berto’s marketing managerFrancesco Polato. “We are seeking to meet their needs with anextroverted collection characterised by special colours and looks, but always with a 360-degree attention to sustainability.”

To complete the Smart Creation showcase, India’s RaymondUco introduced a coloured denim range comprising fabrics thatare both yarn dyed and made from sustainable dyestuffs, tosignificantly reduce the use of chemicals, while Evlox/Tavexannounced plans to introduce post-consumer recycled denim to itscollections, with complete traceability of all the materials used.

Denim Première Vision took place at the Printworks inLondon on December 2nd and 3rd. The next edition will be held inMilan in June 2020.

Success Story: Significant increase in prodn. of melangeyarns with G 32 with compacting system EliTe

Huafu Fashion wanted toincrease its production ofmelange yarn even further. WithRieter’s Ring Spinning MachineG 32 the company is now able toproduce melange yarn with highyarn quality and profits at thesame time of loweredmaintenance costs.

Chinese manufacturerHuafu Fashion Co., Ltd. onlyproduces high-quality melangeyarns. The company has aproduction capacity of 1.8million spindles. Thiscorresponds to around 25% ofthe total production capacity ofmelange yarns or 40% of themedium-quality and high-quality yarns with colored fibersin China. In Lvshang TextileTown in Aksu City, XinjiangProvince, which is known for itstextile industry, the companynewly operates 76 000 spindles. The Challenge:High productivitycombined with high quality

As a part of the “One Belt,One Road” development strategyand the China–Brazil economiccorridor, Huafu wants to increaseits production of melange yarnseven further. The Aksu project isa result of these needs. However,

the company was faced with ashortage of labor and rising laborcosts. Huafu hoped that, byutilizing a high-quality compact-spinning system, it could achievehigh spinning stability and yarnquality while also loweringmaintenance requirements. Inaddition, Huafu hoped to reducethe large workload of itsoperating personnel. With thesemeasures, the company wantedto achieve the benchmark it hadbeen striving for in terms ofproduction and quality. The Solution:Ring Spinning Machine G 32

For Huafu, Rieterrecommended the ring spinningmachine G 32 with thecompacting system EliTe. Thesystem operates with highstability and features lowoperating and maintenancerequirements. These advantagesvery much fulfill Huafu’s wishto ensure maximum yield at lowoperating costs using precisionmachines. In addition, the G 32with the EliTe compactingsystem can be used to produce aconsistently high yarn qualityover a prolonged period. The Benefits for Huafu Fashion

The project involved 66 x

1 152 spindles, and the completeprocess from installation to startof production took seven months. For a project of this scale, thedecision to opt for Rietermachines instead of machinesfrom other suppliers saved threemonths of installation time. Thehigh-quality technologycomponents of the G 32 ensureconsistent yarn quality, evenwhen the machine is operated athigh speed.

The excellent, CVb valuecontributes significantly to themachine’s simple maintenance.Fewer ends down has meant thatthe number of operators could bereduced by half. This has loweredthe operating costs.

The high speed of themachines has reduced Huafu’sproduction costs per ton of yarn.As a result, the company hasincreased its overall profit. The

investment has been paid backin less time than expected. The Customer’s Statement

“With the G 32 with EliTecompact-spinning system fromRieter, we are achieving highyield and efficiency. We producehigh yarn quality and achieveexcellent spinning stability at thesame time.

All of these factors resultin significantly lower productionand operating costs, as well asreduced maintenancerequirements. The managementteam at Huafu is assured that, thanks to the advanced, high-precision r ing spinningmachines from Rieter, the newindustrial park will become abenchmark for the spinning ofcolorful fibers.” says KehuaHuang, General Manager ofHuafu Fashion Co., Ltd XinjiangGrey Yarn Production Base.

Father-Son legacies trusts TruetzschlerA good father is one of the most unsung yet one of the most

valuable assets in our society. Every father tries to leave a lastingmark on his children. Legacy isn’t confined to a will or aninheritance, it is what a father gives them in terms of support, wisdom, character, and faith. And when it comes to handing overbusiness, every father nurtures his children with his best knowledgeand acumen.

Bhilwara province, Rajasthan, India, has witnessed three suchprime examples of highly successful fathers passing on their tradesecrets to their sons. Nitin Spinners, Sudiva Spinners and LagnamSpintex, all highly renowned spinning mills were formed by fathersand are now looked after by their sons. In all three ventures, onething which is common is – brand Truetzschler.

ring spindles, 3500 rotors, 63 knitting machines, 168 air-jet loomswith 200 tonnes per day production of 5s to 80s yarn counts. In2002, the second son Mr Nitin Nolkha who is a ManagementGraduate also joined the board as an Executive Director. At present Nitin Spinners have142 Truetzschler cards in all their units. Ring spinning… as good as it can be

Uster Sentinel enables practical optimizationfor managers and shop floor personnel

Even in the best ring spinning mills, there is always roomfor improvements, among a complex range of options managementand operatives need to consider for optimized productivity andprofit. Uster Sentinel provides a fact-based overview of spinningmachine performance, pinpointing real opportunities for excellencein the use of technology, components and manpower.

“The biggest challenge in my job is to source skilled shopfloor operatives and retain them in the long run,” says M. Kannan,General Manager responsible for technical and factoryadministration at Kikani Exports. The mill – obviously a well-rununit – is located at Dholka in the Indian state of Gujarat. Its installedcapacity includes 29,376 ring spinning spindles and 4,320 twistingmachine spindles. To improve the manpower situation, the millprioritizes progressive HR policies and a decent workingenvironment, as well as investing in sophisticated productionmachinery. WIDE-RANGING BENEFITS IN RING SPINNING

desired levels.Furthermore, it isnow possible tocompare r ings p i n n i n gp e r f o r m a n c ebetween differentmachines.

“The bobbin-build up reportoffers us potentialsavings ont r a v e l e r s ,

“We invested in UsterSentinel r ing spinningoptimization system with thegoal to improve profits but we aredelighted that staff also likes theinstallations,” says VrajeshKikani, Managing Director,Kikani Exports. The mill reportsa positive impact on profitabilityresulting from successfuloptimization of a number offactors, such as waste, ring

traveler lifetime, machine speed and energy consumption etc.Production focuses on 100% cotton combed compact yarns,

in the count range Ne 20 to Ne 40, for weaving and knitting end-uses. The mill has been able to reduce waste by half since installingUster Sentinel. Enhanced overall productivity is a consequence ofreducing pneumafil waste. Uster Sentinel also monitors theproductivity of all spindles, feeding back all the required links andinformation to help yarn producers make optimization decisionsat ring spinning based on reliable data.

Among potential problems for all spinners is inconsistentyarn quality characterized by low twist, caused by loose fibersblocking travelers – especially excessively worn ones. Only UsterSentinel can identify spindles malfunctioning in this way, sincethe issue does not cause end-breaks but still produces yarns whichare too weak for high-speed warping and weaving machines. Thenunique Off-Standard feature of Uster Sentinel safeguards against‘hidden’ quality risks such as this. BOBBIN BUILD-UPREPORT GIVES PRACTICAL SUPPORT

End-break levels are a key indicator of ring spinningperformance, and Uster Sentinel recognizes this by providing anintuitive bobbin build-up report for every parameter influencingend-breaks. Spinners can then initiate improvements relative totheir own mill, taking account of ambient conditions and energyconsumption, as well as machine speed, wear of mechanical partsand personnel.

The bobbin build-up report also provides for higherperformance, along with optimized cops. Comprehensive analysisof the speed curve – and its impact on quality throughout cop build-up – is a key element of the enhanced way of optimizing ringspinning performance. Cop build-up quality is the new dimensionof optimization, enabling managers to select the correct machinesettings for higher production yields, while keeping quality at the

optimizing their lifetime,” says Kannan. He makes use of this facilityfor ring traveler performance comparisons by using the end-breakinformation to indicate the end of traveler life cycles. The bobbinbuilt-up report allows the mill to monitor traveler wear related toage, checking stable end-break rates through the entire doff duration. This report shows the current state in intervals of five minutes, and an overview provides information about end-breaks per 1,000spindle-hours. FACT-BASED FEEL-GOOD ADVANTAGES

Reports give status information at five-minute intervals, including end-breaks and piecings during that period. “Informationabout piecing speeds helps me to identify each operator’s skill levelso that I can optimize the operation schedules and processes. Onlyby assigning manpower carefully it is possible to maintain idealworking conditions,” says Kannan. Uster Sentinel handles completepersonnel management, including shift planning and staffassignment for all machines in the system – integrated withmonitoring of critical ring spinning parameters. This makespersonnel management in ring spinning fact-based and less time-consuming.

Reliable detection of slip, rogue and idle spindles is whatmakes Uster Sentinel popular among shop floor staff. LEDs indicatespindles showing an issue or positions where an end-break occurs, directing personnel quickly to fix the problem. Incidents are alsoshown on the machine display, providing an overview of spindleswhere attention is needed. “Operators really enjoy working thanksUster Sentinel, as it makes it easy to spot an end-break, even whenpatrolling far away. They enjoy the experience of handling theirjob efficiently and are under less stress – both of which increasethe feel-good factor at work,” says Kannan. THE LONG VIEW

Optimizing the potential of ring spinning covers manyaspects, taking advantage of Uster Sentinel and the data it provides:waste saving, compressed air saving, energy saving, cuts saved atwinders and increased productivity and quality. Says Kikani: “UsterSentinel works as a ring spinning optimization system, increasingprofitability where it matters most…every day.”

Kikani visited the USTER booth at ITMA 2019 in Barcelona. He was interested to learn about further technologies and how amill will be managed in future. “I’m amazed about the advantagesfor ring spinning through connectivity. I can see more profitoptimization potential. With Uster Sentinel and Uster Quantumalready installed, only Uster Quality Expert is needed to correlatering quality data and winding quality data in a single system.”

There is one key performance indicator still not integratedthe system but no less important to the company: “Enjoyment. Ahappy staff supports great performance and is a positive cost factorfor the mill in the long run,” says Kannan.

In a very short span, byharnessing the opportunities,Lagnam Spintex emerged as amanufacturer of quality yarn forboth domestic as well as exportmarket. Lagnam Spintex is oneof the few spinning mill in theworld to be certified by Uster, forproducing top-quality open-endyarn .Lagnam prides itself inproducing yarn of highest qualitywith Productivity & safety at alllevels.

When asked about thecurrent scenario of the textileindustry both Mr R.L Nolkhaand Mr. D.P. Mangal showedtheir concern over the disparityin domestic and imported cottonprices caused due to the MSP. MrVarun Laddha on the other hand, voiced his concern over differentstates offering different powertariffs, which gives lowermargins for manufacturers instates, which have dearer powersupply. He demanded a OneCountry One Tariff regime.

When asked about A.T.E.,Mr. Dinesh Nolkha remarkedthat over the last decade A.T.E.has grown as a company bybringing the most advanced andrequired technology to the Indianmarket. Mr. J.C. Laddha echoedhis thoughts and said that A.T.E.understands the needs of theIndian customers and providesthe r ight solution throughprincipals like Truetzschler.

Looking at the trustbestowed by the esteemedcustomers it is fair enough to saythat “It’s True It’s Truetzschler.”
