On Saturday September 21, 2013 Rachel Gearwar of Pal-O-Mine & Bob Ceparano of Country
Farms Polo and Equestrian Center hosted the 2nd annual polo match benefiting Pal-O-Mine Equestrian with the playing of the United States Polo Association’s Joe Rizzo Memorial 12 goal tournament. Joe Rizzo who received the Polo Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 would have been honored to take part in this benefit match for Pal-O-Mine Equestrian who provides therapeutic riding for children & adults with disabilities, those who have been abused or neglected, the military & the economically challenged. Equuleus with John Bianco, Tommy Biddle & Joe DiMenna was pitted against Country Farms with Brett Gearwar, Robert Ceparano & Horton Schwartz. The Country Farms team was awarded 3 goals on handicap to start the match. Equuleus’ John Bianco jumped out and scored the first 2 goals of the match but Country Farms’ Gearwar returned the favor scoring the next 2 goals. Biddle came back and notched one more for Equuleus ending the 1st chukker with the score 5 - 3, Country Farms. In the 2nd chukker Equuleus Polo Team scored 4 goals. Biddle scored 3 and Joe DiMenna added one while hold-ing the Country Farms team to 2 goals,

one from Schwartz and the other a #1 penalty. At the end of the 2nd chukker the score was tied at 7 apiece. The 2nd half of the match was equally exciting! Biddle scored the first 2 goals in the 3rd chukker breaking the tie for 9-7. Schwartz then converted on a penalty #2 foul shot and Gearwar notched another one to tie the score once again with 9 goals each. The 4th and final chukker was intense with the clock being the one to determine the winner. A penalty #1 was awarded to Equuleus and the next 2 goals were scored by Biddle for 12-9. Country Farms fought back with Gearwar, Ceparano & Schwartz each scoring a goal, tying the game once more. With under 2 minutes left on the clock Biddle took the ball from the bowl-in twice to score giving the Equuleus Polo Team the victory with the final score 14 -12. Most Valu-able player went to Brett Gearwar who had a phenomenal game. Best Playing Pony went to “Gringa” owned and played by Joe DiMenna. A perpetual trophy in honor of Joe’s memory as well as USPA trophies was presented to the players. Joe Rizzo had a passion for arena polo and provided polo for anyone who shared his interest. Bobby Ceparano is carrying on Joe’s tradition, always bringing new people young and old into the game of polo. Great day for a great benefit and remembering a great man Joe Rizzo!
