Requirements and descriptionAction is tested on Mac and Windows and works perfectly. Although we can recommend you to use actions with Photoshop CS4-6 there is no reason to not use them in CS2/3.

This set of actions will be created mainly to help you in creations of compositions or layouts from continious tone images. You are not limited in any way since actions are extremly flexible and can be used for any purpose even to generate thumbnails. Although there isn’t any limitation in size I do not recommend you to use actions for layouts smaller then 100x100px.

Every action have 2 + 1 parts or steps with pop-up messages between each part to explain you what is the next task to accomplish. In first part you will define document dimensions, resolution, color mode, bit depth and color profile. After that action will create template with placeholders which you need to populate with images or other documents. Second part in action will open Place dialogs for each placeholder in created template where you can choose images or documents to use. You can use any type of document that Photoshop supports including JPEG, PNG, PSD, Ai, PDF... formats. Third part is separate action to add stroke and separate images. Run Layout 51 Stroke and type odd number in each Stroke dialog that will open. Later you can change you mind and re-run Stroke action. You can also modify stroke using layer effects or to alter it using filters and third party plugins.

How to use Page Layout 51 actionAfter downloading and unziping Page Layout 51 package, open Page Layout 51 folder and double click Page Layout V2.atn file. Photoshop will launch. Go to Window > Actions to display Actions panel.

Step 1Expand Page Layout V2 folder in Actions panel. Click on Layout 51 then click Play button at the bottom of Actions panel. When message window appear, read message then click Continue button.

Step 2Specify settings in New dialog which will appear next. You can type any size and resolution. Page Layouts actions are extremely flexible and independent on size and resolution. Action will deliver always same layout with defined proportions regardless of specified size, you can type 200x200 inches if you want. After confirming specified settings in New dialog wait a couple of seconds for Photoshop to create template with placeholders.

Step 3Immediatelly after template is created next part of action will start. First you will see new message which informs you about next step and what you need to do. Click Continue then navigate to image you want to use for placeholder 1 in top right corner. In Place dialog nav-igate to image on zour hard drive, click on it to select it then click Place button at the bottom of Place dialog.

Step 4After placing image will enter in free transform mode allowing you to drag handles to adjust image size. After changing image size confirm on Enter/Return or by clicking checkmark in options bar. You will see total of 13 Place dialogs to choose 13 images or files in any sup-ported format to populate all placeholders in template.

Step 5When you are done placing images click on Layout 51 Stroke in actions panel then hit Play button. Again mes-sage window will appear, click Continue then type in all following Stroke dialogs exact same odd number of your choice for stroke width. Note: If you are not satisfied with chosen stroke width, or you want to try different width, hide custom stroke group then re-run Layout 51 stroke action.

Immediatelly after placing images you will be able to scale them to fit into placeholder bounds. Use percentages in options bar or drag handles.

After populating template with images run Layout 51 Stroke action to add stroke and separate images.

Click on Layout 51 in Actions panel then hit Play button. When message appear click Continue to proceed.

Double click on Page Layout V2.atn file to launch Photoshop and load action.

When Photoshop creates template next part of action will run. Navigate to 13 images you want to use starting with image 1 in top right corner
