Thank you for your leadership on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and WaterDevelopment. I am requesting funding for The InteGrid Laboratory: Developing the Smart GridSimulation Laboratory in fiscal year 2010. The entity to receive funding for this project isColorado State University, located at 203 Administration Building, Fort Collins, CO 80523 . Thefunding would be used for personnel, supplies, and the specialized equipment andinstrumentation necessary to develop Smart Grid capabilities that will demonstrate in situ areliable, secure, and market-driven electric power grid.The funding for this project is a good use of taxpayer funds, because fully integrated smart gridtechnology will reduce consumer electricity costs by using energy more efficiently and ensurewind and solar power are more reliable sources of energy. This technology will also allow realtime monitoring of the grid for trouble shooting potential weaknesses in the system. The funding will be usedto allow 5000 feet of bank to be protected along the Sacramento River, reducing flood risk to thearea and associated mitigation related projects.
