years after that. Dick and Karen really en-joyed family vacations. His favorites werewhen they rented a motorhome and trav-eled to Denver, Colorado and Destin,Florida.
After college a friend introduced him toErnie. Ernie would teach him all the tricksof the trade on laying carpet. He workedwith Ernie for a couple years learningeverything he could. He left Ernie and start-ed his own business, DeVries Installations.After many years he decided to sell it andwent to work for Ritsma and Associates.
Dick retired in 2011 and spent most histime golfing. His fondest golf memory wasof course his hole in one on the 12th holeat Candlestone Golf Resort. He also enjoyed
doing crossword puzzlesand collecting stamps,his stamp collection hadover 1000 stamps in it!
Since moving to Rail-side, Dick enjoys goingto men’s breakfast, play-ing bingo, and going outto eat with his friendsTom and Mel.

Dick D.Dick D. was born on October 3rd, 1944
in the Netherlands to Janna and Klaas. In1948, at the age of four, Dick and his par-ents left their farm in the Netherlands andmoved to Wyoming, Ontario Canada.Dick also became a big brother that yearwhen his sister Alice was born. Dick says heenjoyed having a little sister and they hada great relationship growing up.
He attended Wyoming Public Schoolsand in high school he did cross country, andtrack and field. He was very good, andCalvin College wanted to recruit him to runon their cross-country team. So, aftergraduating high school Dick moved toGrand Rapids, Michigan to attend CalvinCollege and run on their cross-countryteam. The next 4 years hestudied and graduatedwith a bachelor’s degreein Sociology.
Dick met his wifeKaren on a blind date setup by a friend. They hitit off immediately andwere married 2 years lat-er, June 15th, 1974.They had a big weddingand invited everyone. Afew years later they wel-comed their first born,David and their daugh-ter Jenna was born a few

He has been working at Railside as ourMaintenance Assistant since May 2017.Andy spends his daysensuring residents apart-ments are the way theywant it. Andy and hissignificant other Carollive in Jenison and enjoyspending their free timeup north or at the casino.
