Hi! We’re Lucía, Carla and Alejandra. We are going to talk about the Palace of Charles V.

Although its name is the Palace of Charles V, he never lived in it.

It’s located next to the Palace of Comares and it represents a huge contrast with the Islamic architecture.

It´s squared with a circular patio inside of it.

The palace was designed by Pedro Machuca.

Charles V wanted to have a residence in Granada because this city represented a very important symbolic value: a Muslim city conquered by his grandparents, the Catholic monarchs.

The work was commissioned to Pedro Machuca, an architect and painter of Toledo and his son Luis continued his work when he died.
