ethical values for the betterment of the society

The Newsletter

When a subordinate of President Kalam at DRDO couldn’t take his

children to an exhibition due to work pressure, Kalam surprised his

subordinate and took the children instead!

During a significant project of the DRDO, the work pressure was high. A

scientist approached his boss – Dr. Kalam – and asked to leave early that

day considering he had promised his children to take them to an

exhibition. Kalam generously granted the permission, and the scientist

got back to work. When he did, he lost the track of time and forgot to

leave early. He reached home, feeling guilty, and looked for his kids, but

could only find his wife. He asked for the kids, and to his surprise she told

him: “your manager was here around 5:15 and he took the kids for the

exhibition!”

Apparently, Dr. Kalam had been observing the scientist and noticed that

he might never realise he had to go home. Feeling for the kids, he decided

to take the kids in his stead. If that’s not sweet, what is?

Who did President Kalam invite as the “Presidential Guests” to Kerela’s

Raj Bhavan during his first visit to Kerela after becoming the President?

1. A road side cobbler

2. Owner of a very small hotel

No kidding. As the President, Dr. Kalam was entitled to invite anyone as

the “Presidential Guests” to the Raj Bhavan of Kerela during his first visit

to Trivandrum. Dr. Kalam had spent a significant time as a scientist in

Trivandrum and he invited a road-side cobbler – who was quite close to Dr.

Kalam during his time in Kerela; and so was the owner of the small hotel

where Dr. Kalam would often have his meals.

Can you imagine any other politician or a celebrity inviting a cobbler and a

small business owner as their most prestigious guests?

Once during an event, Dr. Kalam refused to sit on a chair that was

designated for him – because the chair was larger in size than the other

chairs!

At a recent convocation of IIT-Varanasi, Dr. Kalam was the Chief Guest.

There were five chairs on the stage, the centre one being for Dr. Kalam,

the other four designated for the top university officials. Noticing his chair

being bigger in size than the others, Dr. Kalam refused to sit on it and

offered the Vice Chancellor to sit instead. The VC couldn’t, obviously.

No doubt, another chair was made available immediately for the

Honourable former President!

PRAGYA

The enthusiastic nature of PEC students made a remarkable step to take on 5th September 2019; that

is self-governance. On the eve of teachers’ day students took the roles of Director, Principal, Vice-

Principal and Professors, to administrate and conduct the regular classes to the students. This was

appreciated by management and every faculty member in the college the way it was organized.

Congratulations to ECE and EEE Depts. for coordinating the students. In the valedictory function the

The hazards of plastics pose are numerous. The gets littered by plastic bag garbage presenting an ugly

and unhygienic seen. The “throw- away culture” results in these bags finding their way in to the city.

The PEC organized an awareness drive on 9th September 2019 titled “Say no to plastic”. Principal,

Vice-Principal, staff and students actively participated and explained the effects of plastic to the

present and future generations. Kudos to NSS Coordinator Mr. M. Anil and SAC team for conducting and

wishing you to come up with more of such programmes.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMMEA great idea is a wonderful thing, but without vision, it will remain just that. I do not subscribe

to the notion that one is either born with an 'entrepreneur gene' or not. I believe

Entrepreneurship can be learned and should be taught.-Ronnie Screwvala

Under Equity Action Plan(EAP) on 6th and 7th of September 2019, PEC has conducted a two day

Entrepreneurship Programme and is tailored specifically entrepreneurial orientation to build

among young engineering students, to enable them to make the best of knowledge resources.

Dr. R. Vishwanathan coordinated the entire programme. The idea is to imbibe “business” skills

to engineering college students and orient them towards entrepreneurship by imbibing “soft”

business skills. The programme was sponsored by TEQIP-III&EDC, JNTUH. Various industry

experts shared their view in the workshop. The response was enormous from the various

colleges with 300 students to the workshop. The initiative also inculcates hard business skills to

create and manage new ventures using design thinking and practical tools for translating

engineering to commercial products. The management is taking every necessary step to foster

an entrepreneurial mindset and mentoring and supporting the students. The participation

certificates are given to the students.
