Words from Their Excellencies
Unto the grand populace of The Barony of Atenveldt do we, Baron Nudd and Baroness Emelyn
send greetings!
What a whirlwind the last few months have been! One of the most exciting events we attended
was Yule, where a plethora of our populous was recognized with some truly exciting awards.
But lest we forget, our barony is blessed with many amazing people that work ceaselessly to
bring our dreams to life. From the folks that wash the dishes to the event stewards to the offic-
ers, we cherish you all and want to say two very important words: thank you! You are the heart
of the barony that is in turn the heart of the kingdom!
Now that Saint Nicholas has made his list and checked it twice, it is time for you to do the
same! Just around the corner we have the thirty-fifth annual Estrella War! Whether you have
attended the last thirty-four or this will be your first war, you can benefit by a wonderful article
written by Master Yehudah many years ago. We encourage you to go to
Estrellawar.org/camping and look to the lower right for a link to his lessons: "You forgot the
what? (A guide for packing, camping and war kitchens)". Many of you may be attending for the
first time. Please do not hesitate to ask questions to make sure you have all the information you
need to have a great time with no major upsets.
Building a community of several thousand people for a week and then making it vanish over-
night is no easy feat. Your volunteer hours are urgently needed. Please check the officer an-
nouncements on Facebook as they seek assistants. Your help is necessary to make the event a
reality. But there is another key issue you should consider. By declaring your hours for the Bar-
ony of Atenveldt, you help keep the coffers full. While we make a little bit of money throughout
the year on events, the largest part of our income is generated by the payout we receive from
the work out people do at the war. Your efforts make a big difference to our funding.
As you notice some of the folks that make your SCA life easier with their contributions of time
and efforts, please remember to bring them to our attention with award recommendations.
Some of those recommendations may be more fittingly send to the Crowns. We encourage you to
do that as well. Your words have weight! Please use them to make sure deserving people are
recognized.
If you have not already heard, Wednesday night fighter practice has now moved to Moon Valley
Park at 502 W Coral Gables Drive in Phoenix. Please join us for a mid-week break from the
hustle and bustle of modern life and warm up with a hot drink and a cookie. Remember, wher-
ever we go, we are ATENVELDT! We hope to see you soon!
Nobilitatis, honorem , et gaudium vite !
Yours in Service,
Nudd & Emelyn

Baronial Officer

The Big Red Officer Core is looking for a few volunteers to help run the Barony
either as a deputy or the principal officer. In the Baronial Officer’s list you will see
that the offices that are available are in red. Come and learn how the Barony runs
from a business perspective. Help is always appreciated and gratefully accepted.
If you want more details about any of these positions either contact the principal
officer if there is one or the Seneschal's office.
Wanted: Baronial Seneschal
The Seneschal’s main concern is making sure the Barony is running smoothly. The Seneschal is
the person charged with responsibility for the modern legal affairs of the Barony. Keeping the
Barony running smoothly is by no means a task for one individual. It takes a consolidated group
of officers who have specific responsibilities. It is the cooperation of these officers that keeps
things together so the populous of the Barony can concentrate on having fun. The Seneschal al-
so advises the Baron and Baroness on matters of Corpora and Kingdom Law. They also ensure
that the electronic copies of the law are up to date and is responsible for distributing them to
anyone requesting them via electronic format. If you are interested in this position please send
a letter of intent to [email protected] and [email protected]
