PALM SCHWENKFELDER CHURCH SUNDAY, MARCH 24, 2019
THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT
Chimes
Welcome and Announcements
Change Our Hearts
Prayer
Prelude “Praise Him! Praise Him!” arr. B. Inman
Mission Statement of PALM SCHWENKFELDER CHURCH:
Our task is to proclaim the Living Word of God, which empowers us to care for
and share with our community and the world.
Vision Statement of PALM SCHWENKFELDER CHURCH:
Serving the glorious God, claimed by Jesus, and inspired by scripture, honoring
our history, with renewed commitment we will reach out to our community and
the world through worship, spirit enriching programs, and outreaching mission.
Senior Bell Choir “Jehova, Señor de los Cielos”
(Nicholas Pence, cello; Bill Ludlow, guitar)
Jehovah, Lord of the heavens, glory be to your name,
The King of the universe, and Redeemer of mankind.
The rain in the trees, the wings of the angels
Proclaim your beauty, they preach your riches.
I am weak, Lord, and blind, overwhelmed with horrors,
Sinful desires, and separated from your gifts.
Free me from my evil, bless me with your goodness.
Sustain me, God, in your grace, sweet lover of the soul.
The dwelling of your temple, illuminated with colors,
Stars of the heavens and a spring of colors.
Magnificent in holiness, splendid in charity,
Jehovah, Lord of the heavens, light of the eternal road.

*Call to Worship
O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your
power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and
call on your name.
Let us worship God!
*Hymn #451 “Come, Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy”
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession
We have been tempted, loving God, to go our own way without
reference to eternal truths. We seek our own gratification
rather than the well-being of all your children. We compare
ourselves to others and find their failures but seldom discover
our own shortcomings. We seek to build our lives by our own
limited design rather than by your larger purposes. We engage
in immorality in the name of freedom and become enslaved by
our selfish ambitions. The ground on which we stand is
crumbling under our feet. O God, forgive us and grant us a
firmer foundation. Amen.
Time of Personal Confession
Senior Choir Anthem “Is There Room for a Sinner?” Pepper Choplin
Assurance of Pardon
Scripture Isaiah 55:1 – 9 (NRSV p. 598; LP p. 1152)
Luke 13:1 – 9 (NRSV p. 848; LP p. 1630 – 1631)
Children’s Sermon
Children’s Church Rosemary Heffner
*Hymn #547 “O for a Closer Walk with God”
Sermon “Walking With God”

Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Call to Offering
Offertory “Lamb of God” arr. J. Carter
*Doxology
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye Heavenly Host;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*Prayer of Dedication
All that we present to you now, O God, we have received from
your hand. We give so the hungry may eat and the thirsty may
receive pure water. We share to send the good news of your
Word to those who have not heard. We invest in just causes,
that your mercy may be known among all people. Most of all,
we give because passing on your gifts in generous response is
necessary to life. Amen.
*Hymn #561 “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”
*Benediction
Senior Choir Anthem “I’ll Fly Away” by Albert E. Brumley
arr. Craig Courtney
Postlude “Soon and Very Soon” arr. J. Carter
*All who are able, please stand.

One Great Hour of Sharing People who have been helped by the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering, frequently comment that “you were here” after the flood, the earthquake, or the fire, or “I can’t believe the church showed up for me during my time of need.” Some even say, “I have given to this offering, but never thought it would help me.” Our gifts through the offering allow the church to show up and be here when people need it most. What’s more, OGHS works with congregations and organizations locally, those vested in the affected communities, so we can be present quickly, and help the people living in those communities rebuild their lives. Please consider participating in this year’s Offering; simply write ‘OGHS’ in the “Other” portion of your Offering Envelope or use one of the Envelopes from the Mission Bulletin Board. The Mission Board requests your prayerful consideration in continued support of this far reaching Mission again this year. As the Apostle Paul writes, “by the power at work within us,” God is able to “accomplish abundantly more than we can ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20).
