Loving and faithful God, the coronavirus reminds us that we have no power and we are dependent on you.

We place ourselves in your loving hands. Give eternal rest to all who have died from the virus.

Place your healing hand on those who are ill, and give your protection to us in this time of fear and uncertainty.

Calm our fears and help us to trust you as our faithful God. Enlighten our government and church leaders as they are faced with important decisions.

Give blessing to those in healthcare and protect them.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us.

Blessed Francis Seelos, pray for us.

March 24, 2020 Dear Parishioners, Fr. Patrick and I continue to serve you in the best way possible until together we reach the other side of this crisis. God does not abandon His people and we stand firmly on that truth. All of our parish offices remain closed, but please be assured that our staff is working remotely to provide the best possible care to and for you. Please call our parish office at 985-892-2422 if you have a need and must reach a priest. We thank you for your prayers and the many ways you have supported us. The Communion Antiphon for today’s Mass is from Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; there is noth-ing I shall want. Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose, near restful waters he leads me.” Jesus IS our Good Shepherd who leads us to green pastures and restful waters when we face trials in our lives. During this time of crisis, Jesus, the eternal Good Shepherd, will give us comfort, peace and solace just as He did for His people in ancient times. Although Jesus is the only Good Shepherd, it is His gift to allow us to join with Him in the care of His flock. You are doing incredible sacrificial outreach in a multitude of ways to your family members, to our St. Peter Parish family, and to those in need in our community. THANK YOU! To all who were able to answer my plea this past weekend and help our parish financially, THANK YOU! Unfortunately, there are some in our parish and local community who are or will be experiencing finan-cial, emotional, or spiritual challenges because of this crisis. I come to you now asking in a specific way to be with all those who are having difficulties. Pray for them; give care for or support to a friend, fami-ly member or someone you know who is in need; help someone to get necessary supplies; and/or give financial assistance or food to those organizations or societies who help the poor, such as our St. Vin-cent de Paul Society or the Northshore Food Bank. TOGETHER…we give glory to God through our generosity and our care and love for one another. Je-sus said, What you do for the least of My brothers and sisters you do for Me (Mt 25:40). Let us pray: Gentle Jesus, compassionate and caring Good Shepherd, help me to follow you faithfully. Strengthen me daily with Your love and guide me along life’s paths. Lead me to serve You by serving those in need. Amen. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. God Bless, Fr. Otis

March 23, 2020 Dear St. Peter Catholic School Community, Fr. Patrick and I continue to hold you, the administration, teachers, staff, students, parents and grandpar-ents of St. Peter Catholic School close in our hearts and daily prayers. We are praying as we ask for God’s protection for you and your families. Our school doors are temporarily closed to our students at St. Peter Catholic School for their protection and the protection of their families and for the protection of our school personnel. Please know that dur-ing these challenging times, our school administration, teachers and staff continue to work tirelessly to serve you and your children in the best way possible. Their dedication is very much appreciated and I say thank you! Their outreach is a testament to their extraordinary servant’s hearts as part of our school community. The doors to our school buildings are now temporarily closed to our students but, as you know and I know, many important things in life pass through closed doors: • God’s love, in all its forms, passes through closed doors because God alone is the origin of love. • The spirit of St. Peter Catholic School passes through closed doors because of your love for and faith

in God, and for your care for one another as a family. • The dedication to Catholic education passes through closed doors because of the administration,

teachers and staff’s continued dedication to tirelessly serve you and your families. • The love that children spread has no boundaries to closed doors as they find their own ways to com-

municate with each other. Despite closed doors, the love of God will always succeed in communicating itself. We stand firm to that truth. To the St. Peter Catholic School Community: We will move through this crisis together united in our faith in God. Our parish offices are now closed but if you need me or Fr. Patrick, please call 985-892-2422. I invite you to access our parish’s website for current parish coronavirus updates https://www.stpeterparish.com and Masses. Be assured that both Fr. Patrick and I will tirelessly serve you in any way possible during this crisis. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. God Bless, Fr. Otis

An Act of Spiritual Communion The Church has taught through the centuries that when a person is not able to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Mass, we can still unite ourselves to him in prayer. It is a beautiful way to express our desire for union with him and with his Church. This act of spiritual communion was encouraged by many of the great saints of our past – Padre Pio, Alphonsus Liguori and Josemaria Escriva, to name a few, the latter who said, “What a source of grace there is in spiritual communion! Practice it frequently and you’ll have greater presence of God and closer union with him in all your actions.” How does one make this act of spiritual communion? One would make a prayer expressing their desire to receive Christ and asking Him to come into their hearts. St. Alphonsus Liguori provides a beautiful example of such a prayer of spiritual communion: My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. This prayer is not a substitute for the Eucharistic Lord but can unite us to him throughout the day and demonstrate our love for Christ and the Eucharist. If reception of Communion is not possible for you in these times or at any time, because of sickness, age or distance, this prayer or a personal prayer which conveys the same love of Christ and desire to be with him may be offered. Jesus responds to prayer. An excerpt from Fr. Nile Gross’ column in the March 28, 2020 Clarion Herald

Archbishop Aymond: Please continue to pray for Archbishop Aymond as he recovers from the coronavirus. May God heal him and restore him to full health. Our Lady of Prompt Succor hasten to help us. Blessed Francis Seelos, pray for us.
