1) How do you go about talking to people about suicide? Answer//-She asks what's going on in their life to know where to start, ask question about it and other trusted adults she ask if they have a plan for that she calls suicide and calls an a adult in their life

Teenage Rebellion

According to Psychology Today, teenage rebellion causes many conflicts with parents. Two common types of rebellion are against socially fitting into a group (rebellion of non-conformity) and rebellion against adult authority (rebellion of non-compliance). Rebellion may cause young people to rebel against self-interests. They may refuse to do school work or even physically hurt themselves. It can cause them to experiment with high risk excitement. High risk excitement is smoking, drinking, drug abuse, and sexual exploration without a relationship. They reject safe rules and restraints. Serious rebellion can begin at the age of nine. Teens struggle for identity, acceptance, attention, control, and freedom. Teens say, "I just want freedom." While teens want freedom they still rely upon parents for basic needs. Teens need to learn a very important point, freedom comes with responsibility.

LazinessPeople born between 1994 and 2004 are known as Generation Z. This generation is thought

to be apathetic, stereotyped as "lazy and unaware."Teens in this generation are considered multi-tasking whizzes who are less into politics and more into celebrity status. The attention span of generation Z is short. Playing video games, texting, and watching videos can lead to negative health effects. If teens stay inside all the time and have a poor diet this can lead to obesity, diabetes and other health problems. Facts about obesity from the CDC:• Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30

years. • The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from

7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012.• Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to

nearly 21% over the same period.• In 2012, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese• Overweight is defined as having excess body weight for a particular height from fat, muscle, bone,

water, or a combination of these factors. • Obesity is defined as having excess body fat.• Overweight and obesity are the result of “caloric imbalance”—too few calories expended for the

amount of calories consumed—and are affected by various genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors.

Eating Disorders An eating disorder is a mental condition where someone's diet is abnormal. It shows physically, but is

an emotional disorder. Two out of 100 students will struggle with an eating disorder. More women than men suffer from eating disorders.

Anorexia Nervosa is when someone's weight drops so low it is considered unhealthy. This becomes a persons way of coping with emotional issues, but it is not a healthy way.People with this eating disorder may be scared of weight-gain, even though they are already under- weight. They might diet or exercise more than needed to lose weight. A person may use pills, such as laxatives or diet pills. Social and culture pressure can make the desire to be thin greater. Most celebrities in magazines, on TV, or in movies, might make someone think that thinness leads to success. Bulimia Nervosa is another eating disorder. Bulimia is when a person binge eats and purges or throws up later to get rid of calories. They tend to consume thousands of calories every day. Bulimia can cause swelling of the face and throat, bad breath, decayed teeth, teeth marks on knuckles, and dry skin. Physiological trauma can cause this disorder to develop.

Binge Eating is a different type of eating disorder. It usually makes people overweight. Binge Eating is where people eat too much. This is usually done in secret. This disorder could cause serious health problems in the future due to obesity. What causes eating disorders? No one really knows. Doctors have said that people with ADHD are more likely to get an eating disorders. Anorexia is mostly caused by wanting to be perfect or skinny. Children and teens watch TV or movies and want to be "skinny" like the celebrities.

Being insecure about body-image can cause an eating disorder. What are the effects of eating disorders?- Starvation - Becoming very weak or sick- Health problems - Over-weight or under-weight

- Heart problems- Tooth decay

-Feeling cold or tired -Hair loss -Dry Skin Signs that someone has Anorexia- Extreme weight loss - Making excuses to skip meals- Unusual concern for appearance - Closed communication, very polite and proper- Mood swings- Wear big baggy clothes- Able to hide feelings - Low self-esteem - Constantly weighing themselves If you think a friend has an eating issue, please report it to an adult or a guidance counselor.

Hazing at a Local High School

Blue Ridge High School football players recently faced charges after a locker room assault. Five of the varsity football players ganged up on a 9th grade JV football player. After pushing the JV player to the floor, one of the boys sat on his chest with his naked behind. The players mother reported the incident to the SRO. The coach found out when he overheard players talking about the incident. The hazing was recording on video, although the school refuses to admit if the video was cell phone or surveillance cameras. The boys were kicked off the team, suspended for five days and face expulsion hearings. They were released from jail on a $10,000 bond. The teens face charges of assault and battery by a mob.

Do they deserve to be punished or arrested? Should the players be charged criminally? Criminal charges will affect these young lives forever. Plans to continue their education at college may be affected.

However, this incident may haunt the victim for the rest of his live. The school says this kind of behavior will not be tolerated. Let this be a lesson we all learn from and not repeat.

Peer Pressure Peers influence a person's life in many ways. We all listen to our friends and they listen to us.

So why do teens give into peer pressure? Teens want to be liked or want to fit in a certain group. It can be tough saying "no" when friends ask the teen to go along with them. Inner strength and self confidence is needed to help a teen stand firm. When a teen is asked to go to a party where drugs and risky behavior are, the teen can make the decision to attend or not. Some teens may attend the party because they want to try something new. Peers can influence us in negative ways. For example, friends might want one to skip class or shoplift for fun. Teens need to choose friends wisely. These decisions can make or break a teens future. source-kidshealth.govBy: Aaron Sane
