Current Activities – VSL Only MDS Corporate Pandemic Planning Committee

-Established 2007, meets quarterly-Comprised of BU reps and support groups, led by MDS EHS-Monitoring WHO, Health Canada (VSL), PHAC (Public Health Agency of Canada) (VSL) and CDC web sites for updates on risk level and recommendations-H1N1 Pandemic is at WHO Level 6 (May 2009)

COMMUNICATIONS:-Communications via MYMDS for all employees-Corporate and Pharma communications teams working together-No travel restrictions as of May 2009 (Source: WHO)-PHAC & Pandémie Quebec Information Dissemination (via email to VSL Employees and People Leaders as needed)-WHO identifies Ukraine H1N1 Pandemic Crisis with ILI at highest levels (Only country as of Nov 3, 2009)

POLICY REVIEW:-May 1, 2009 HR Policy for Infectious Substances -Policy reviewed and amended as conditions/needs change (No travel restrictions at this time confirmed by EHS BC Corporate)

VSL ACTIONS & DECISIONS: -Implementation of additional 15 Purell Stations across VSL (Sep 09) - Inter-Office email sent out for Government Controlled vaccination information (Sep 2009) for Quebec region (Nov 2009)-H1N1 Information dissemination at VSL (PHAC, Health Canada) 2009 /2010 – Regular Updates to People Leaders via email

Pandemic Response Plan- Approved earlier, now to be rolled out to BU- Result of Avian Flu crisis in 2002; now being applied for H1N1 risks- Based on World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations- 6 Phases; WHO announced raising level to Phase 6 (May 2009)

-Phase 6 sustained spread through various global regions (May June 2009). No rationale for travel restrictions at this time.

- Each LOB represented, with unique risks (section 2.3, pages 6-11)

- Functional Groups having increasing responsibilities as Phase Levels Increase

- Pages 15-22 show actions needed by support groups- Example of HR responsibilities on page 17: Level 4 and Level 5

-Develop, review and update contingency succession plans for SOT-Review/modify contingency plans based on pandemic characteristics-Implement appropriate policies-Site HR reps to co-operate with Public Health Agencies

- Other Groups: EHS&BC, SCM/Facilities, Communications, LOB, IT, SOT

HR Policy for Infectious Diseases

-Copy included with documents sent for this meeting (Attached in meeting invitation)

-Purpose: to address diseases that pose a threat to the work community

-Policy statements reviewed/approved by all BU.

-Incubation Period for H1N1defined as 7 days, and makes basis for employees working from home when possible if traveling from, or living in, an infected area

-Please review Policy and direct questions to HR or EHS&BC

Communications/Advisories

Immediate1.       Promote awareness to all employees - hand washing/posters (HC, Qc).  2.       Encourage all employees who are sick to stay home.3.      Work with facilities to provide hand sanitizer dispensers.4.       Ensure site communicating to all employees in an emergency.5.       Employee who has an MDS laptop computer take it home end of day.6.      Replacement for handshake; minimize skin-to-skin contact.7.       Encourage employees to stay up-to-date through posted links.

PlanningPlan actions that sites will implement if outbreak of infectious disease in region.  1.       Identify succession plans for all site management.2.       Identify departments/splits for reduced site with remote laptop-VPN usage.3.       Department manager: inventory those with laptop and VPN access.4.       Departments to document which employees cross-trained or multi-skilled.5.       Consider measures if public transportation is shut down,

or if schools are closed and employees with children are absent.

Summary and Next Steps

Summary• MDS leading company wide efforts and communication• HR Policy on infectious diseases issued May 1, 2009• Information posted on MYMDS• PS sites have Business Continuity Teams• PS has an approved Pandemic Response Plan• H1N1 Flu epidemic has been raised to Level 6 by WHO (May 2009)• Advisories issued to BCT to prepare in event of Pandemic Level 6 – Sustained 2009 / 2010 period

Next Steps:

1. Update Pandemic Plan – VSL site only (Names, Contact info, alternates)2. Functional Groups to prioritize actions for Level Phase 6 (WHO: May 2009)3. EHS&BCP to monitor status, liaison with corporate and provide direction to MDS PS VSL site.
