Situation: The Dashain Festival • From September to October, this is a main festival in
Nepal to demolish demons. This is a tradition since ancient times.
• Thoroughout Nepal, the goddess Durga is worshipped with thousands of animal sacrifices.
• This is the religion and ethics of Hindu religion. My family’s relatives are celebrating this.
• I am in Buddhism. I never celebrate this festival. • This is harming to living beings; also, animals are going
to be rare in this world. We can celebrate without slaughtering animals.
• Is my not joining this Dashian celebration ethical or not ?
Situation: Baisakh Day• My Buddhist family is in a Hindu community so we
follow the path of Buddhism and practice some of the customs and rituals of Hindu.
• One Buddhist custom is Baisakh day, when the Buddha was born. From the centuries on this day in my town the Hindu people sacrifice thousands of the goats, sheep, hens and ducks in the name of god.
• Hindus are the majority and Buddhist are minor thus every one practice, now it already become the culture of my town to sacrifice the animal in that temple.
• Although Buddha dharma does not allow harming even a tiny insect but still they are practicing it.
• Is it ethical for my family to kill animals for Baisakh Day?
