My Call to Action

I would just like to persuade the public of how serious this issue has become not just in Central Florida but across the Country.

Not all Panhandlers cause harm to the community and are guilty of what the newsletters print and reporters state, they’re not all guilty for fraudulent and taking advantage of people’s money; nor are all aggressive.

To help avoid issues such as these, next time you see a panhandler on the side of the road or on a median when your at a stop light, hand him/her a business card, application for a job, or even a bite to eat.

Definition: Panhandlers are people who approach strangers and beg for money or food.

Are you aware of how crucial

In Sanford in the Downtown area there has been several reported issues of panhandlers pertaining to be frauds and not truly homeless and/or in need of money or food.

Also the amount of aggressive Panhandlers has sky rocketed over the recent years.

The Florida Senate

Due to this problem, the Florida Senate has passed a law in section 2045, obstruction of public streets, highways, and roads.

Anyone who violates the provision, upon conviction, shall be cited for a pedestrian violation.

Secondly, you would be guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree; if you are caught again breaking this law.

permanent housing that would help them off the street.

48% of panhandlers are African American

1 out of every 4 panhandlers in the United States has served in the Military at some point in time.

Up to 80% of panhandlers have spent time in jail.

36 of the 50 largest cities in the United States have made public begging a criminal offense.

Panhandling is more likely to occur in urban than suburban areas and business centers are the most popular targeted places.
