Terms and Abbreviations

Annotation A particular detail of a digitized slide.

Virtual Slide / Slide

A digital image of a thin glass plate on which specimens are mounted for microscopic study:

a dynamic, interactive image that you can manage, save, magnify, zoom, name, evaluate, annotate, mark, comment, send it to a colleague electronically for co-operation or advice, and so on.

1 About Pannoramic Exam Module 2.1

Pannoramic Exam Module is a web-based product, designed for practicing, self-testing, andexamination.

Pannoramic Exam Module is not integrated to the Pannoramic product family as a module. However,if you install CaseViewer on the instructor and student computers, digitized MRXS slides can becomean integrated part of your training material. For example, practice or exam questions can includeevaluating and scoring a digital slide.

1.1 ESchool in the Pannoramic Product Family

Pannoramic ESchool is a solution that enables digital education and taking exams. It consists of thefollowing parts:

• CaseCenter – serves as a storage server of digital slides used in education. CaseCenter'steleconsultation feature in conjunction with CaseViewer provides opportunities to teach ondigital slides.

• Exam Module – supports practicing and taking exams in digital education, by using digitalslides.

The following figure shows how ESchool make use of other Pannoramic products and features:

Instructors create their training material, including images, tables or links to Pannoramic slides.

• Practice and exam sheets are stored on a server, and can be accessed via the Internet or an intranet setup at the training facility.

• If you include a slide digitized with Pannoramic scanners, the slide can be opened either with CaseViewer or InstantViewer.

CaseViewer is always installed locally on the instructor's or students' computers while the slides might be stored remotely, on a CaseCenter Server. The annotation link created with Instant Viewer is identified by Exam Module and the annotation will be opened in Instant Viewer, so a locally installed viewer application is not needed on client computers.

2 Practicing with Exam ModuleAn ExamModule practice/exam sheet can be opened in a web browser: you can scroll down in theentry page and open any files or images that are linked from this or the child documents. If thedocument contains a link to a Pannoramic slide: click the link, the locally installed CaseViewerapplication will automatically open to display the slide.

2.1 Working on a Practice Session

With the practice sheets of the Exam Module you can prepare for exams. You can choose examsheets for practicing from the public exam sheets only. (An exam sheet can be private or public.Private ones are for exams only, public ones for practicing as well. The attribute is set by theinstructor).

1. Launch the web browser (Google Chrome or Opera are supported) and type the web addressof the practice page of the Exam Server: <serveraddress>/espractice

2. Click Start practice session.

3. Choose from the listed public exam sheets.

4. Click Start practice session again.

5. Mark your answers. The procedure is identical with the exam session, except that imagereupload via Pannoramic Viewer function is inactive.

6. Click Submit. The evaluated exam sheet appears.

3 Taking Exams with Exam ModuleWith the Exam Module you can take exams. Questions are edited and compiled by an instructor,usually a teacher.

1. Launch a preferred web browser (Google Chrome, or Opera) on your desktop, and type the web address of the exam page of the Exam Server: <serveraddress>/esexam

2. Authenticate yourself by typing your User name, Password, and Exam code, then click Login.

3. Mark your answers.

There are 3 main question types:

• Simple answer question – only one answer is correct and should be marked.

• Multiple answer question – more than one answer is correct and should be marked.

• Textual question – Free editing of text.

Some questions have attached pictures. Just click on the picture link, and it will open in a newbrowser window. Click at the bottom right corner of the thumbnail image to open preview image in magnified view.

If a slide is linked to a question, your answer to that can be your markups on the picture of a Pannoramic slide. Note, that this function is supported with Pannoramic Viewer only.

Click , and the slide will open in the selected Viewer. See sections 3.1 for more information.

4. To upload your exam, click Submit. Closing the browser window of the exam without submitting it will result in loosing all of the data you have entered.

5. After submitting your exam sheet, the following message appears on you screen:

3.1 Upload image to question with Pannoramic Viewer

1. Connect to CaseCenter Server prior to opening the slide.

2. The slide opens, then when the image of the slide shows what you need, click the icon onthe main navigator window.

3. Annotate the picture you have taken, and upload it to your exam sheet by clicking the green check mark at the right bottom corner of the window.

Caution!

You can only upload once as an answer to an ESchool exam question: if you try toupload a modified version of the file or try to upload another file, the other files orversions are not stored on the server.

3.2 Exam Results

You can check your exam results after you have submitted your answers, if the completed exam is closed or the exam cannot be accessed any longer, and exam results are public.

Automatic evaluation processes all the data after you have submitted the exam sheet, and the following are listed in the window:

• Universal User ID

• Exam code

• User name

• Message: Exam was/was not successfully uploaded

• Score

• Percentage

• View exam results: the URL of the exam results pageNOTE: If there are more than one exams available based on filter criteria, the latest exam is automatically selected on the list. If the instructor has already evaluated the exam, the results and comments will be included in the exam sheet.
