INTERMEDIATE SEASON | April to June Intermediate season: it usually happens from April to June. The meadows start drying and the water collects in the bays and lakes; the fish, animals and birds stay round these areas. Just before (October and November) and after the floods (April to June), it does not rain. With the water levels low, you get the formation of lakes and catchment hollows from which thousands of fish have no escape, becoming a banquet for birds and alligators. DRY SEASON | July to October This is an excellent time to visit the Pantanal. The land dries out with lack of rain making movement easier. Many species can be seen walking around searching for waterholes. Different types of animals get together around the few remaining water pools. The dry season, July to September, is the best time of year for wildlife observation. The lack of rain causes the lakes to diminish, reveals the grass plains and facilitates travel. The plains are green with vast areas of fresh grass. As with all trees the Piúva bursts into flower.

RAINING SEASON | November and December FLOODING SEASON| December to March Rainy and Flood season: summer rainfall between November and March causes the flood. Most of the animals search for higher areas such as “caapões” and “cordilheiras”. It is a good period to go on a boat ride to see the spectacular landscape and to go through the flooded meadows on horseback.  In the flood season, from December to March, with the intensity of the rains, a major part of the Pantanal becomes submerged. The Flora is fertilized by the nutrients carried down from the higher land while the animals take refuge on the ridges.
