Preventive Maintenance and Calibration Program:

The IDM Preventive Maintenance and Calibration (PM&C) program has been designed tomake the maintenance and calibration of your valuable testing equipment more costeffective by preventing breakdowns and downtime by regular calibration, service andreplacement of defective parts. IDM's PM&C system takes care of all service and repairneeds you may have. It is an on-site maintenance and calibration service available on aregular basis, suitable to your needs and your testing equipment.

The PM&C program is the best way to ensure your testing equipment is maintained inoptimum working condition. PM&C team members are supplied with the necessary meansto sustain your testing equipment's peak performance throughout its lifetime, benefiting bothyou and your equipment. Testing equipment in your facility (or at IDM) will be calibratedusing industry-wide, internationally recognised standards or by your specific requirements.Calibrated instruments are labelled accordingly and documented with an IDM full calibrationreport or certificate of conformance (whichever is applicable). All calibrations are maintainedin IDM's calibration database and you will be notified when your next service/calibration isdue. IDM's Calibration work is comprehensive- adjusting your equipment to give you theright results, whenever possible.

Through this system of scheduled PM&C, IDM can help you improve productivity byreducing down time, minimising unscheduled maintenance and the need for service calls.We schedule in agreed dates and periods for the PM&C program, and give you priornotification so you have time to prepare yourself. This service is available in Australia only atthis point of time.

The Swing Arm Clicker Presses are used for a wide variety of die cuttingapplications. The most common uses are cutting soft to semi-rigidmaterials such as gaskets, leather, cork, rubber, elastic, foam and otherlike materials.

IDM’s extremely popular COF Tester is used to determine the static andkinetic friction of plastic film, sheeting, paper and other sheeted material.This unit can measure Static COF (peak) from a resting position andcontinue to move testing surfaces in a relative motion to give an accuratekinetic COF (dynamic) result.This COF Tester employs a stationary sled with a moving plane. With the option of a computersoftware package to record data, the IDM COF Tester has proven itself to be a fast, reliableand accurate method of determining coefficient of friction in various areas of manufacturing.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0008-VS (Variable Speed)

The C0008-VS model has all the same features as the C0008with the addition of speed from 50 – 300mm/min using a

stepper motor for acuate variable speed control. It also has a home setting so that once youhave completed a test and unloaded your sample it will return to the start point “HOME” readyfor the next sample.All the motion run controls are via a LCD touch screen for stop, start, home and speedchanges. This COF tester is the next level in accurate and precise COF measurement forstatic and kinetic results, as with the C0008 Peel Testing and Heated Platen Testing can alsobe carried out on this model.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0041 (Automated )

Manufactured to determine the static and kinetic friction of plasticfilm, sheeting and paper and other sheeted material using thehorizontal plane principle. The C.O.Friction Tester employs amoving sled with a stationary table. The table has a clamping system preventing slippage ofthe test piece during a test. The sled is lowered onto the table by means of an elevatorsystem, which places the sled so as both test surfaces meet simultaneously, eliminating anyoperator error, which may influence the results of the test.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0045 (Incline Plane)

This instrument is used to determine the coefficient of static frictionof most packaging materials by measuring the angle at which one

test surface begins to slide against another inclined surface as the incline is increased at aconstant and prescribed rate. As the plane rises at a rate of 1.5° ±0.5°/s, the first sign ofmovement from the sled is detected by a micro switch, stopping the plane movement andrecording the relevant angle of the incline. The test is frequently referred to as a slide angle.The coefficient of friction is numerically equivalent to the tangent of that angle.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0049 (Hot Slip)

The C0049 Coefficient of Friction Tester is designed to determine thefriction properties of plastic films, foils, laminates, papers and boards.The equipment performs tests to most of the recognised international teststandards including IS0 8295 and ASTM 1894-78. The equipment is essential formeasuring the slip properties of packaging materials to ensure smooth running onproduction packaging machines or to measure the effect that a coating or print has onbase material.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0054 (Manual Incline Plane)

A manual version of Incline Plane COF Tester. This unit is used todetermine the coefficient of static friction of most packaging materials bymeasuring the angle at which one test surface begins to slide against

another inclined surface as the incline is increased at a constant and prescribed rate. Asthe plane rises, the first sign of movement from the sled is detected by the operator and arecording of the relevant angle of the incline is noted. The test is frequently referred to as aslide angle. The coefficient of friction is numerically equivalent to the tangent of that angle.

Colour Check CabinetsC0048 Series

These units are produced to answer visual colour matchingneeds. Used for assessing colour changes under different light sources, todetermine suitability of materials for industrial applications where there is the need to maintaincolour consistency and quality. Fluorescent daylight, incandescent and optional black lightmay be used either individually or in combination.

Colour Comparative SystemModel: ColorStriker

The ColorStriker is user-friendly and can be used in variousindustries to test almost any material or surface type, including

Concora FluterModel: C0013

The Concora Fluter is used to form test flutes in medium in preparation forcrush tests. The temperature is maintained at a constant 175°C. One rolleris motor driven at 4 r/min, while the other is free to rotate with a minimum of friction or otherresistance. Variable speed option as available.

Crush TesterModel: CT-21

Used to determine the compression strength of corrugated and fibreboard andtheir components. Operation is completed by built-in software through an easyto use backlit alphanumeric keypad. Optional accessories are available for FlatCrush, Edge Crush, Short Column, Pin Adhesion, Ring Crush etc.

Ring Crush Test FixtureModel: R0008

Designed to carry out the ring crush test for paper and board having anaverage thickness of up to 1000µm, for the purpose of MD ring crush,CD ring crush, liner or fair side. The test piece of paper or board is supported in the ringcrush holder and subjected to edgewise compression between the platens of a crushtesting machine.

Cutting Dies – Ruler TypeModel: C0025

Ruler Type Cutting Dies are used for cutting of plastic film, paper and rubber samplesused for tensile and tear testing (dumbbell, trouser, etc). They are manufactured with aply backed knife-edge, and can be manufactured to suit various international teststandards.

DisintegratorModel: DSG-2000

Equipment for the laboratory wet disintegration of pulp and thecorrect preparation of pulp suspensions which allows forseparation of interlaced fibers that were free in the pulp stockwithout changing their structural properties.

Drum Dryer

The Pulmac Speed dryer is used to rapidly pre-dry collected rejects oraccepts from the Pulmac MasterScreen™. The Pulmac Speed Dryerspeed-drys rejects and/or accepts within 2-4 minutes. The pre-drieddebris can then be quickly measured in a moisture balance.

Rapid Sheet Dryer - PortableModel: RD-10

The Rapid dryer is intended for shortening the drying time of wet pulp orpaper samples before determining the dry weight or moisture content. With atemperature range of ambient to 180ºC, this unit can dry sheets up to a sizeof 250 x 300mm.

Drying Ovens

Drying Ovens are available to suit a variety of heating and dryingapplications. Fan forced ovens feature digital temperaturecontrol, high capacity heating elements, heavy duty fan motors,adjustable exhaust vent, positive door latch and superiorhorizontal air flow system.

Edge Compression Guide BlocksModel: E0001

Edge Compression CutterModel: E0002

The Edge Compression Cutter has been designed and manufactured to cut accuratesamples from corrugated board for testing purposes.

The Guide Blocks aid in the determination of the resistance of corrugated fibreboard to aload applied in the plane of the board in a direction parallel to the flutes, i.e. parallel to thecross direction of the component sheets.

The Electric Incinerator is used for the determination of residue (ashcontent) on ignition. It is a test used worldwide to determine the fillercontent pulp, paper and board. It is used for quality control in theproduction line.

Elmendorf Tear Testers

Tear Testers quickly and accurately measures the tear resistance of sheetmaterials including paper, textiles, roofing products, film and foils. Variousmodels are available: Electronic Mechanical and Heavy-Duty.

Fiber Classifier – Brecht & Holl TypeModel: BH6-12

The Fiber Classifier is used for the separation of pulps into fines, shives, anduseful fibers fractions. The design is based on a pulsating membrane, sieves andcontinuous water flow, allowing the separation of different fractions to be donesmoothly, without damaging the fibers or changing the original characteristics.

Grammage Cutter 100cm2Model: C0042

Designed to cut 100cm² circular paper samples to assess Grammage. Thisis an important factor as most paper is bought and sold in accordance withits mass per unit area.

Gloss Meters – Multi Angle

Designed to determine the quality of adhesion, and scuff resistance of ink topaper surfaces, plastic and aluminium film. A 2lb or 4lb weight with a clean

white board is swept across the test piece for a set number of times, and then closelyexamined. Heated weights are also available for these units.

Klemm Absorbancy TesterModel: DRK110B

This instrument is intended for determining capillary rise height of paper andboard which are agglutinated (not applicable to paper and board that thecapillary height rises less than 5mm within 10 minutes).

Laboratory Beater – Holandesa TypeModel: HV-10

This unit is used for pilot beating of pulps for even the smallest productionlines of papers and paperboards. The beating roll knives and bedplate arestainless steel and feature adjustable contact pressure with integratedbalance.

Laboratory Beater – Jokro TypeModel: JK-21

This unit is used for pilot beating of pulps, papers and paperboards. Thisunit has six sets of beating units which are mounted in a horizontal revolvingtable that performs a planetary movement around the central shaft, ensuringperfect homogenous beating of all samples.

Laboratory Beater – Valley TypeModel: VB-21

The VB-21 is used to beat pulp with high repeatability. This equipmentsuccessfully beats most types of pulps from hardwood short fibres likeEucalyptus to softwood long fibres like Pine.

The closed beating loop driven by the machine ensures that all the pulp is refinedhomogenously while it is circulating.

Laboratory Pulp FlufferModel: PF-21

Chips of pre-wetted pulp are inserted in the top funnel, which guides them intothe in-line fluffing rotor. Running at high speed with high inertia the fluffing rotorand its round bars fluffs instantaneously and homogeneously the flow of pulpchips. The fluffed pulp is accumulated in the large lower container.

Laboratory ReactorsModel: HB-51 (9L Capacity)Model: HB-21 (23L Capacity)

Laboratory reactors are designed for pilot chemical, semi-chemical andthermal pre-treatments of several types of biomass. A unique patentedrotational vessel design ensures perfect mixing and homogeneousreaction. The removable sturdy lid gives full access to the internal section of the reactionvessel and the lower mounted 76 mm ball valve enables easy discharge of reacted materialsdirectly from the vessel.

Laboratory Screen - Sommerville TypeModel: SM-21

The SM-21 is a Somerville type Laboratory Screen, used worldwide forseparating contaminants, such as shives, stickies, flakes and particles, from apulp slurry. The screen box is easily opened thanks to its single action smartlatch, enabling quick access to the screen for the routine procedures ofcollecting retained fraction and washing equipment. The Weirbox hasadjustable built-in weir to keep water level at standard height of 102mm abovescreen plate surface during operation.

Laboratory Sheet Dryer – Rapid Kothen MethodModel: SFA-2000

The SFA-2000 is an independent and automatic drying module,designed to be used in association with any existing unit of RapidKothen type Laboratory Sheet Former in order to provide a sensibleincrease in the production of hand sheets within strict determinationsof applicable standards.

Laminator

The Pulmac Laminator is a robust laminator designed to be used withthe Pulmac MasterScreen for sample preparation of displays foranalysis of Stickies, Dirt, and/ or Shives by scanner. This laminator isdesigned for industrial use. Temperature, nip pressure, and roller

speed have been standardized. The unit comes with a carrier.

Master Screen

The MasterScreen™ XLQ is a low consistency screeningdevice designed to mechanically separate shives, dirtand/or stickies from fiber. After screening, thecontaminates are washed directly onto a filter paper,andwater is removed by the Auto-Filter’s vacuum-assist drain system. Themaster screen provides a rapid and repeatable method for concentratingand collecting shives, stickies and/or dirt.

The Pulmac Accept Collection Bag is used to collect fiber accepted from thePulmac Master Screen. The ACB captures all fiber that will not pass a 200mesh screen. Separate frame and bag. Will capture up to 10 g, oven driedequivalent, of pulp from the MasterScreen. Bag is taken out of frame andbackwashed to access.

PaperSchmidt is a rebound test hammer designed specifically forpaper roll hardness testing. Irregular rolls and other defects such ascorrugations and telescoping are caused by non-uniform paper roll

hardness profiles are a major cause of lost production for both producers and convertersalike. A reliable measurement of the roll hardness profile is of critical importance in decidingwhether a roll is good or bad. Production staff needs to be able to test quickly and reliablyand to interpret the results as efficiently as possible.

This unit is a manual laboratory sheet former used for the production of standard265.7cm2 / 163 x 163 mm square laboratory sheets for physical and opticaltesting. The sheet is formed from a pulp suspension on a standard wire screenunder suction generated by the flow of the water column.

This unit is a manual laboratory sheet former used for the production ofstandard 200cm2 / Ø160mm circular laboratory sheets for physical andoptical testing. The sheet is formed from a pulp suspension on a standardwire screen under suction generated by the flow of the water column.

As an option to the conventional system, the sheet former can also besupplied as model FC-21AA with automatic system for filling, homogenizingand draining controlled by a built in PLC.

Sheet Former – Semi-AutomaticModel: FD-21

A semi-automatic laboratory sheet former used for the production ofstandard 265.7cm2 / 163 x 163 mm square laboratory hand sheets forphysical and optical testing with full respect to modern performance andergonomic requirements.

The square sheet is formed from a pulp suspension on a standard wirescreen gauze under suction generated by the flow of the water column.

StickyScan™100

The StickyScan™100 is specifically designed to be used in conjunctionwith the Pulmac MasterScreen™ to generate a stickies count basedupon screening contaminants, displaying them on a 22 cm in diameterfilter paper, preparing the display, then scanning.

Depending on pulp and application a 0.004”, 0.006” or 0.008” slotted screen plate may beused.

TensileTesterModel: DI-21

The DI-21 determines the tensile strength, stretch & TEA (tensileenergy absorption) of paper, board and tissue for Q.C and R&D. Thisequipment is absolutely user friendly & reliable due to its built-in testing software & itsrugged & accurate mechanical construction. It offers complete statistics, a parallel port forconnection of a local printer & an RS232 serial port for the connection to a host computerfor data transfer.

Tension MonitorModel: Tensio+

This instrument is designed to measure the tension in papermachine fabrics (forming fabrics, press fabrics and dryerscreens without metal ‘clipper’ seams) while the paper machineis running. The special corner contact sensors assure that the

test results are accurate and reliable, independent of the operator.

Thickness Gauge Digital Indicator with StandModel: T0013

Providing statistical results, this unit can be used on many differentmaterials where an accurate measurement of thickness is required.Different options can be fitted to suit custom requirements includingmm/inch gauge readout and special foot sizes.

Thermo-Hygrometer “Sword”Model: RLF-TS

This unique hand held instrument is used for determining the airhumidity (relative humidity) and temperature in stacks and reels ofpapers.

Universal Testing Machines

Water Resistance of Glue Bond TesterModel: RC-21

Specifically designed to determine the resistance of corrugated paperboardto withstand wet conditions by immersion in water.

Water Vapour Transmission TesterModel: PVA/4

Used for the preparation of test pieces for the accurate measurement of thewater vapour transmission rate flexible packaging materials, includingparchment, wax paper, polyethylene, vinyl, cellophane, foil, laminates, andother materials.

Z-Span™ Tester

The Z-Span™ manual bench top tester measures zero and short pantensile strength with individually loaded handsheet or machine madepaper samples. The Z-Span™ Tester generates individual tensilereadings from pre- pared test strips. The Dial-a-Gap attachmentfacilitates testing at multiple spans from 0.2 mm to 0.6 mm. The WestTesting Kit supports sample preparation and testing of re-wet teststrips.

Z-Span™ Tester (Automated)

The Automated Z-Span™ Tester offers an automated zero andshort span testing capability. Once the sample handsheets or stripis loaded onto the feed tray, 24 wet/ dry, zero/short span tests areexecuted during a five minute testing sequence. Followingtermination of the testing sequence, test results are displayed onthe operator interface terminal and, via Ethernet connection, can automatically update a localPC-based Excel data- base. The Automated Z-Span Tester is calibrated and control softwareis loaded as part of in-factory system integration.
