Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav (No.2690572Kj, son of Shri Karan Singh Yadav, wasborn on May 10, 1980, in village AurangabadAhir, district Bulandshahar, UP. He was enrolled inGrenadiers on December 27, 1996.His father hadserved with Kumaon Regiment and had seenaction during 1965 and 1971 Wars.

Tiger Hill in the Drass Sector of Jammu andKashmir was an important feature which wasstrongly held by Pakistani troops in battalionstrength. The feature is conical in shape, includingtwo spurs branching to east and west and someridges. The approach to the top, at a height of16500 feet. was indeed difficult.

18 Grenadiers were tasked to capture TigerHill on July 1,1999. After making necessarypreparation they launched the attack at 1430 hrson July 3. During this attack Grenadier YogenderSingh Yadav was with the leading team of GhatakPlatoon. He volunteered to be in the lead andunmindful of the risk involved fixed rope for histeam to climb up. The Pakistanis watching his teamapproaching the area top, opened up with intenseautomatic, grenade, rocket and artillery fire. Histeam Commander and two of his colleagues werekilled in this murderous fire and the advance ofGhatak Platoon was thus stalled. Knowing thegravity of the situation, Grenadier Yadav crawledup to the enemy position to silence it, but in theprocess he sustained multiple bullet injuries.Unmindful of his injuries and the hail of bullets, hecontinued to push forward towards the enemyPosition, lobbed a grenade and killed four enemysoldiers in close combat.

During the charge on enemy positionGrenadier Yogender Singh Yadav again sustainedbullet injuries but he refused evacuation. Inspiredby his gallant act. the Ghatak Platoon chargedsome other positions and captured Tiger Hill top, amajor objective.

Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav, thusdisplayed most conspicuous courage and braveryunder extremely difficult situation. He washonoured with Param Vir Chakra.
