Paramedical ExaminerTraining Program

A certificate of achievement is awarded to individuals who successfully complete the following courses:

Introduction to PhlebotomyThis course provides the theoretical and practical knowledge of how to become a phlebotomist. It covers establishing a professional relationship with the patient; selecting and preparing the venipuncture site; collecting specimens; preparing and maintaining equipment; and the health, safety and legal aspects of the occupation. Live sticks are performed. No externship is offered.

Advanced Phlebotomy ProceduresThis is a continuation of the introductory course with a focus on the advanced procedures a phlebotomist may perform in a clinical setting. Live sticks performed. No externship is offered. Prerequisite: Introduction to Phlebotomy.

Paramedical ExaminerStudents will study theory while performing practical skills such as, live phlebotomy sticks, ECGs, vital signs, nicotine, and drug testing. Students will learn proper documentation and complete a chain-of-custody specimen trail. Infection Control, Medical Ethics, and Specimen Collection and Transporting will also be studied. Prerequisite: Advanced Phlebotomy Procedures.

CareerDescription

Paramedical examiners perform tasks such as drawing blood, measuring height and weight, checking blood pressure and pulse, collecting urine specimens, and taking medical histories in order to screen life insurance applicants. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted that jobs in this field are expected to grow rapidly through the year 2016. A paramedical examiner career can provide great benefits and security.
