Parameters – Powertrain

Introduction

IntroductionThis document describes parameters that are associated with the powertrain. Only parameters that are considered useful to the bodybuilder are listed.

The parameters and settings available for a specific vehicle depend on the vehicle specification from the factory. Contact a Scania workshop for full details of the cur-rent parameters.

The parameters are stored in the vehicle’s various control units and can be adjusted using SDP3 for bodybuilders (Scania Diagnos & Programmer 3).

SDP3 for bodybuildersSDP3 has different access levels. A complete access level is normally used by Scania workshops for troubleshooting, repair and adjusting parameters.

SDP3 for Bodybuilders has a limited access level with custom functionality. Exam-ples of functionality in SDP3 for Bodybuilders:

• Adjusting parameters.• Activating functions.• Transfer the .BIC files over from BICT (Bodywork Interface Configuration Tool)

to the vehicle.

Use the path below to set parameters for the powertrain in SDP3:

• Functions > Adjustment > Powertrain

Bodybuilders that do not have access to SDP3 for Bodybuilders can seek assistance with adjusting parameter settings from a Scania workshop.

More information on ordering parameter adjustments can be found in the document “Entry list – Powertrain”.

Engine speed change at stepped controlThis parameter states how much the engine speed must be changed for each short press of the button on the cruise control switch. The switch for cruise control refers either to the switches at the driver area or external switches connected to the BCI con-trol unit (Bodywork Communication Interface). Stepped control is obtained by short presses on the switches for acceleration (ACC) and retardation (RET). Stepless con-trol is obtained by one long press on one of the 2 switches.

Possible values:

• Active, 10-200 rpm in increments of 10 rpm

Factory setting: 50 rpm

Engine

Parameters – Powertrain

Maximum engine speed while brakingThis parameter only applies to vehicles with a torque converter.

This parameter states an engine speed which the engine must not exceed when con-trol of engine speed 1-4 is used and the driver brakes at the same time with the foot brake.

The function is adapted to vehicles that need to be mobile while maintaining a high power output through the power take-off, such as fire engines. The function is very safety-critical and the engine speed must never be set higher than the speed at which the driver can brake the vehicle using the foot brake.

Possible values:

• 300-2,000 rpm in increments of 10 rpm and idling speed

Factory setting: Idling speed

The parameter is very safety critical and only applies to vehicles with torque convert-ers.

In order for the function to work, the Maximum engine speed while braking param-eter must also be reset from idling speed to the desired engine speed limit.

Possible values:

Cylinder balancingThe cylinder balancing function governs the fuel volume injected into each cylinder to reduce engine vibrations at low engine speeds.

Possible values:

• Active – Means that the engine control unit carries out cylinder balancing as usu-al.

• Inactive – Means that cylinder balancing is switched off. This setting can result in increased vibrations when idling.

• Inactive when power take-off is in use – Means that cylinder balancing is switched off when a power take-off is in use. On some vehicles, vibrations may occur when the power take-off is used while cylinder balancing is activated.

• Inactive when vehicle is in motion – Means that cylinder balancing is switched off while driving. The reason is that vibrations can be due to other causes than a fault in the injectors, for example that the wheels are not completely round.

Factory setting: Inactive when vehicle is in motion
