Challenges?
• We are now in a ‘Zero sum’ environment• 3 levels of progress is an average….less able
students tend to make less progress• Boundaries have been raised• No retakes impacts on middle ability• Coursework change impacts on weaker students• No comparisons to previous years• Ebacc will make more difficult for less able
Curriculum Changes KS3• Life without levels• New simplified national curriculum• Compulsory Ebacc• Mastery curriculum
Curriculum Change KS4
• New Syllabi for all subjects
• Discounting of subjects
• Numbers not grades
• New headline measure - Progress and attainment 8
• Compulsory Ebacc for the future
• Linear courses
Curriculum Change KS5
• Separation of AS and A levels
• Reduced coursework
• New Syllabi
• BTEC changes
• Reduced funding
Home Learning
• Evidence for importance• Working on consistency at school and at home• Follow up is vital• Flipped learning
So, what can you do as parents?
Home Learning – parent role
• Talk about home learning• Create the right place to do it• Encourage to check and do it early on• Check planners• Check ‘show my homework’• Communicate with teachers• Support the punishment where relevant!
Year 11 feedback
Positives for both year groups
• Drop down days • Rewards • After school sessions• Study plans• Revision guidance• Holiday sessions• Coaching by more experienced staff (SLT)
