Organisation Stage 2 and Stage 3 teachers work collaboratively across their stage.

Stage meetings are held once a week to plan and review teaching programs and assessments.

Term planners and teaching/learning programs are followed by each teacher to ensure the same content is taught across the stages.

Students complete common stage assessments throughout the year;

English – writing, reading fluency and comprehension and areas of mathematics. Assessments are discussed at meetings for CTJ (consistent teacher judgement).

Assessments assist in helping us to know our students and allow for grouping and differentiation for our students.

Learning Intention and Success Criteria stated clearly at the beginning of each lesson.

Self assessment using consistent language e.g. feeling ‘green’, ‘orange’ or ‘red’.

phonics, and vocabulary program.

Word study teaches students to examine words to

discover:

the regularities, patterns and conventions of the

English language in order to read, write and spell.

Words their Way

Students have a new set of words each fortnight.

Teacher explicitly teaches the focus for that set of

words

Word Sorts include Speed sort, Blind sort and Word

Hunt.

Students form generalisations and spelling rules, also

Kids Matter – Bounce BackExplicitly teach social and emotional skills through a program

called “Bounce Back.” Acronym stands for…

Bad times don’t last. Things always get better. Stay optimistic.

Other people can help if you talk to them. Get a reality

check.

Unhelpful thinking makes you feel more upset. Think again.

Nobody is perfect – not you and not others.

Concentrate on the positives (no matter how small) and use

laughter.

Everybody experiences sadness, hurt, failure, rejection and

setbacks sometimes, not just you. They are a normal part of

life. Try not to personalise them.

School-Wide Expectation and

Behaviour Matrix Kenthurst Public School has a revised Expectation and Behaviour

Matrix that all teachers have begun teaching from.

It is vital that students know what is expected in each area within

the school and follow the expectations outlined.

Students are rewarded for following the expectations.

Students who do not follow the expectations are prompted,

redirected, provided a choice and conferenced with a teacher to

teach them correct behaviour.

Each classroom teacher has created their own ”Classroom Matrix”

for the needs of their class. These portray the rules and procedures

for their room.

Minor, Major and Critical Behaviour

Teachers follow classroom and playground behaviour

management flowcharts for any negative behaviour.

The type of behaviour exhibited by the student, justifies if it

is a minor, major or critical incident. Teachers record the

incident on a paper referral slip and a consequence is put

in place (following the management flowchart).
