It was a huge success! Students are still talking about the wonderful items they purchased. Thank you again, your support is truly appreciated. Speaking of support, we are very excited about our next event, Maude Moore Wood's 1st Fall Festival, sponsored by our PTA. We hope to see you there! Also, please be sure to stop by the Lost & Found located in the Cafe. Several items are needing to be reunited with their owners. As the weather begins to shift into much cooler weather, please be sure your child dresses appropriately. Are you in need of homework support? If so, please visit The Agoge page on the campus website located at the link https://schools.killeenisd.org/domain/5487. It is filled with many instructional software programs that help to supplement learning for your child. Thank you for your support and continue to remind your child that their actions impact the entire classroom. COUNSELORS The character trait for November is RESPONSIBILITY. HOW TO BE A RESPONSIBLE PERSON (AND FEEL GREAT DOING SO!!!) 1. When you agree to do something, do it. If you let people down, they'll stop believing you. When you follow through on your commitments, people take you seriously. 2. Answer for your own actions. Don't make excuses or blame others for what you do. When you take responsibility for your actions, you are saying, "I am the one who's in charge of my life." 3. Take care of your own matters. Don't rely on adults to remind you when you're supposed to be somewhere or what you're supposed to bring. You take responsibility. 4. Be trustworthy. If somebody trusts you to borrow or take care of something, take care of it. If somebody tells you something in confidence, keep it to yourself. People must know they can count on you. 5. Always use your head. Think things through and use good judgment. When you use your head, you make better choices. This shows you can be trusted! 6. Don't put things off. PRE-KINDER ---------------------------What a great 1st 9wks of school! As the weatherstarts to get colder, please send a warm changeof clothing. This month's theme is MyCommunity. Learn and Laugh Together by tryingthis game. Help your child understand themeaning of location words by playing a game of"Simon Says." Remind your child that theyshould follow only the directions that begin with,"Simon says." Remember sometimes to omitthe words, "Simon says," as you giveinstructions. Here are a few examples. Sit onthe chair//Put a finger under your chin/ Put onehand over your mouth/ Stand near the table.

KINDER ---------------------------------It is hard to believe we are already starting thesecond quarter of school! This month during ourReading instruction, we will focus onunderstanding what we read and write. We willalso learn how to read between the lines. InMath, we will begin introducing and developingnumbers 11–15 and reciting numbers to 90. InScience, we will explore earth materials. Duringour Social Studies instruction, we will focus ongeography and places. Please continue toreview letters and sounds, practice orallycounting to 90, and recognizing numbers to 15while at home. Parents, please continue readingwith your child daily. Ask questions about whatyou read before, during, and after to help buildlistening and comprehension skills. We are soproud of our students, and all they have learnedso far!

1st GRADE -----------------------------First grade is celebrating the end of the firstnine weeks of learning, and we are very excitedto see what is coming up next. We will beworking on number concepts to 120 in math andtext features and creating mental images whenwe read in reading. We will continue our studyof magnets and good citizenship in Science andSocial Studies. Parents, please continue to readwith your students 20 minutes every night toincrease student vocabulary andcomprehension. Thank you for your continuedsupport.

2nd GRADE -----------------------------Hello, 2nd grade Warrior parents! We aremoving swiftly into the 2nd 9 weeks and arevery excited about the growth that we areseeing. In reading, we are working on makinginferences, using text evidence to supportcomprehension, and using context clues todetermine unfamiliar words. In math, we areworking on two- and three-digit addition andsubtraction problems. We are working onsolving with missing addends through wordproblems. In writing, we are continuing tocreate realistic fiction writing pieces. InScience, we are learning about naturalresources. In social studies, we are learningabout the different roles in communities.

We look forward to seeing academic growththroughout the remainder of the semester.Thank you for your continued support!

3rd GRADE ------------------November is scheduled to be a busy month forour grade level!! Our first field trip this year willbe at the Thinkery located in Austin, Texas, onNovember 13th. Please sign and return thepermission slip so your child can attend thisexciting trip. Our students have started learningabout multiplication in Math. Please beginpracticing basic facts to help them improve theirmath growth. In Reading, we are focusing onthe type of language authors use to writeexciting and engaging text. We will be workingon writing expository pieces while still practicingproper Writing conventions. All students areencouraged to practice their Math and Readingskills at home using the iReady program. Eachstudent has an assigned QR code to log inthrough Clever from the district website. Pleaseremember to practice your multiplication facts!

4th GRADE -----------------------------Families, we made it! Thank you to you forhelping our first nine weeks go so smoothly!We hope to provide your children withamazing learning experiences continuously.The fourth-grade team has begun planningthe grade-level field trips. If you would like tohelp with the upcoming outside learningopportunities, please make sure that you stopby the office to complete the requireddocuments. Thank you for being sosupportive!

5th GRADE ------------------------------November will be a short but busy month for 5thgrade. We are going to begin designingexperiments in Science and practice findingcoordinates in math. During Social Studies thismonth, we are returning to the colonies as welook at how our country came to be. As always,the literature block will be filled with fun storiesfrom around the world that we will use to guideus as we write poetry and short fiction. We areso thankful for the privilege of working with yourchildren and wish you all a joyous month.

CASTLE ----------------------------------We have made it through the first quarter! Thisyear is flying by so quickly. Our CASTLEstudents have settled into their new classroomsand routines. You should have received a reportcard with an accompanying IEP progress reportof your child's progress on their IEP goals andobjectives. We would like to say THANK YOUfor attending your conference. Please do nothesitate to contact your child's teacher, shouldyou have any questions or need clarification.We are coming into that time of the year, wherewe need to bundle up to stay warm and healthy.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION -------------The Physical Education team continues to beactive and fun! We finished our cup stackingunit and football. Our upcoming units of studyare drum fit, volleyball, and yoga, and MyPlate games. Please remember to have yourchild wear appropriate shoes on PE days.

MUSIC -----------------------------------Music Department news for November The fallseason is upon us, and our students are"leading like Warriors" in music class. Studentsare learning and singing songs tailored to thefall season. Musical scores that highlight theupcoming holidays are also a part of theirlearning. The goal is to help our studentsdiscover all the "nuts and bolts" that make upthe wonderful world of music. The excitingsounds of musical instruments and theappreciation of different world cultural musicmake up the days here at Maude Moore Wood.Our wonderful 4th graders put on an excitingsinging performance during our October OpenHouse event. Friends and family were treated toa wide-ranging program of song, speech, andinstruments. Please come out on November14th at 5:30pm, for our Math Night Event andcatch the next exciting performance… by ourvery own 5th-grade music students. It will be ablast!!

LIBRARY -------------------------------Welcome to the Library! Students have beenattending library orientation to review the libraryexpectations and proper book care. Here aresome crucial tips on keeping our books safe:Keep food and drinks away from library books.Keep books away from pets & little brothers andsisters. Do not color or write in library books.Keep your library books in a safe place. Don'tleave your books in your car! Keep your booksinside! Be sure your hands are clean! Protectyour books from inclement weather! Don't mixyour library books with your books at home!Don't take your book out of your backpack onthe school bus! Remember if there is a problemwith a book, please bring the book to the librarystaff immediately.

CLINIC -----------------------------------PARENT NOTIFICATIONWe conduct BasicFirst Aid Care in the clinic. If further treatment isneeded, the parent/guardian will be called. It isalways necessary that we have working phonenumbers in case of an accident or emergency.The parent/guardian will be called to pick uptheir child for the following reasons: Fever of100 degrees or over, actively vomiting, headlice, possible contagious eye or skin condition,severe injury requiring medical attention, andnurse's discretion depending on situation orDistrict Guidelines.

It is required that children in Pre-K, Kinder,and 1st Grade students bring a change ofclothing in a Ziploc bag daily. Please makesure clothing is climate-appropriate. If a studentneeds assistance in changing, the parent will becalled to come and help.
