Summer Reading Suggestions 2013

Pre-Kindergarten—Grade 4

Sugerencias de Lectura Verano 2013

Pre-Kindergarden—Grado 4

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Reading, reading, reading –yes, it’s true, reading every day, each night, on the weekend and during the sum-

mer –reading is the key to your child’s academic development.

Read alongside your child. Read to your child, ask your child to read to you. Read in English, Spanish, or any

language you choose. Try more than one language.

Read the newspaper, magazines, children’s literature, non-fiction, poetry, recipes, and advertisements. Even

street signs!

Reading is both fun and useful. Folktales, sports news, fashion news, business news, celebrity gossip, and

comics –it all has value. The main thing is to make it a habit.

Reading books of interest is especially valuable to our children. Our Project Summer Read helps to make it

easier to select books, for a full summer of reading.

The schools send home an “envelope” with reading resources in it to get started. Please note the books

listed are suggestions for summer reading. Students are encouraged to read other books by the authors

listed, additional books in a series, and books recommended by the librarians. The “envelope” also includes

resources for accessing books and information on the computer. Raz-Kids, Tumblebooks, Bookflix are exam-

ples of sites that have electronic books.

The public library will help you find the books. Local book stores will help, too.

Many parents ask: “What can I do to help my child be a better student?”

Answer: Read, read, read!

Encourage your child to read this summer. Read together. Read on vacation! Make it a fun family activity!

Have a peaceful and safe summer. We look forward to seeing you and your children in September.

Sincerely,

Chris Clouet

Estimado Padre/Guardian,

Contesta: Lean, lean, lean!

Atentamente,

Chris Clouet
