Emirates Aviation Experience
Thursday 24th May
Key Stage 3 Science students recently visited
the ‘Emirates Aviation Experience’ which is a

using life-size models, interactive technology and
a real Rolls-Royce Trent 900 jet engine.
‘I really enjoyed the simulator, but we crashed!’ The interactive items were fun and they taught me a lot!’ Roza Hannick
‘We learned how an aircraft works with thrust, lift and drag’ Molly Shury
‘One demonstration showed if you pump a lot of air into a water bottle, steam comes out and it feels warm.’ Max Moore & Louis Welvart

House News This week we are looking
at the different charities
each house supports.
This week is Falcon
Head of House: Mr Hodgkinson
Charity: Comic Relief
Falcon has raised £168.75 for Comic Relief
Comic Relief is a major charity based in the UK,
with a vision of a just world, free from poverty.
Comic Relief works all year round to help make
their vision a reality and in the years since they
started out in 1985, with the support of some
remarkable people, they’ve achieved amazing
things and raised over £1 billion.
In July 1985, the ‘The Big Idea – Comic
Relief’ - came to life with Richard Curtis,
Jane Tewson and friends as Live Aid
capturing hearts and minds.
‘The idea was to use comedy to
raise money and change lives
in Africa and the UK.’
Below are some of the ways in which Comic
Relief has been able to create real, lasting
change to the lives of individuals, communities,
and the issues they strive to tackle:
Rights for disabled people
Comic Relief was the first major grant maker to
focus on supporting disabled people to speak
for themselves. They worked to address this
and contributed to a huge change in
government policy (1995 Disability Discrimination
Act) and a new set of long-overdue rights for
disabled people in the UK.
Elder Abuse
Elder abuse, tragically, does happen behind
closed doors. To highlight the issue, Comic
Relief worked with the BBC to make a drama
called ‘Dad’. Then, together with the Department
of Health, funded the first ever elder abuse
prevalence study which contributed to the
government implementing new procedures to
protect older people.
Comic Relief are grateful for every donation
that they receive which helps to make
someone else’s life better, either in the UK or
around the world. Fundraisers find new ways
with their incredible efforts to raise the cash
that allows Comic Relief to do what they do.
