PRINCIPAL’S WORDS The situations in communities in this time of uncertainty is challenging. As I write this, some of the information that I have added may be already out of date. So here is some information I have at this time around the spread of COVID-19.

As everybody is aware, gatherings of 500 or more are not allowed for non-essential practices. This will have a major implication on a number of activities planned for the school and the community. The Department of Education has sent out information to schools that require us to look at cancelling whole school parades, which has happened from this week. I will keep you updated on Parentnet and Facebook with any further cancellations and postponed events.

Many questions are up in the air. Will events such as NAPLAN run this year? What will happen with exams under the new curriculum? How long will these restrictions be in place? How does a school run with social distancing practices in place?

I do not have answers to a number of these questions. I do know we are in uncertain times and in particular, we must keep a level head. Take precautions by washing hands regularly and following the advice of health officials. In particular, I am ensuring that we all support our staff who are at the forefront when dealing with viruses. Keep listening to advice and act where necessary. That is my advice.

I will keep you updated on any changes that happen over the next period of time. Safety is the priority. Our lives will all change as a result of this situation. My thoughts are there for everybody in the community as we all navigate these ever-changing waters.

GEOFF HOAD MEMORIAL CUP

On Friday 13th March, 19 players and 2 teachers travelled to Atherton Soccer grounds for the inaugural Geoff Hoad Memorial Cup, played by Tablelands schools. Our school entered two out of three divisions for the day, Intermediate and Senior. We came away with wins in both divisions and the trophy for winning Champion High School for 2020. All games were played in good spirits and all players knew their role and completed their tasks exceptionally well. Many thanks to Ms Wrigley for her help with preparation and on the day. Well done everyone, it is a pleasure to be representing our school with such fine, young ambassadors. Gary Davis—HPE Teacher
