A Message from the Superintendent
As we approach the end of the first semester, I would like to take thistime to stress to you how important the role parents have in their child’sacademic success. Talk to your child about what is going on in class eachday, ask about their studies and assignments, encourage them to do theirbest, and praise them for their successes and efforts. Your interest shows that you valuetheir education, and if they know you care about it then they will, too.
There are also many tools you can use to monitor your child’s progress throughoutthe year. Of course report cards and progress reports, but also the Active Parent system.Students should also be required to regularly read their AR Books and to work onCompass Learning activities at home a minimum of 45 minutes per day.
We very much appreciate your work in support of your child’s academics. I verymuch appreciate hearing any feedback or concerns you may have. Together we cancontinue to educate Today’s Learners to become Tomorrow’s Leaders!
James Q. Bacchus, Superintendent, Hattiesburg Public Schools
