Luistro also called on parents to

have the ultimate responsibility fordetermining whether their childrenshould go to school, even if no orderfor cancellation/suspension ofclasses has been issued if they feelthat travelling to or from school will

place their children at risk, he said.

    THE CHALLENGE

Monitoring & Helping Your KidsSTAY CYBER SAFE

WHY? A few clicks in the computer mouse can

land a kid to some treacherousterritories.

The internet poses many dangers forkids : cyber bullying, sexual predatorsand inappropriate sites.

Anything that they post or upload issubject to public exposure.

Research findings of psychologist at theLeeds University revealed a possible linkbetween heavy internet use anddepression. Internet addicts were morelikely to show depressive symptoms and

replace real life meet ups with on-linechat and networking sites. Too much time on-line, even when

interacting with friends, appears toreduce confidence and a young personshopes of achievement in the real world.

HOW? Require your kids to go on-line in a

common place inside the house, not intheir room.

Do not share personal data like contact

numbers, home addresses and the like. As a rule of thumb, specifically for kids,

dont post stuff on the net if you are notcomfortable posting the same on yourschool bulletin board.

Supervise your kids when they go on-line.

Install filter software such as cyber sitteron your computer.
