The International Baccalaureate® (IB) was founded in Geneva,Switzerland in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation.
A group of talented, forward-thinking teachers at the InternationalSchool of Geneva, with assistance from several other internationalschools, created the IB Diploma Programme.
What started life as a single programme for internationally mobilestudents preparing for university, has today grown into four programmesfor students aged 3 to 19.
A bit of history …
A bit of history …The programme in the early days consisted of a common pre-university curriculum and a common set of external examinations for students in schools throughout the world, seeking to provide students with a truly international education.
Although the first IB schools were predominantly private international schools, they included a very small number of private national institutions and schools belonging to state education departments.
This has changed over the years and today over half of all IB World Schools (authorized to offer one or more of our programmes) are state schools.

• Develop internationally minded people.
• Recognize our shared humanity and guardianship of the planet.
• Create a better and more peaceful world.
A school education that aims to …
The IB Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help tocreate a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to developchallenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learnerswho understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The IB Learner ProfileIt’s the IB mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century
IB learners strive to be:
Inquirers
Knowledgeable
Thinkers
Communicators
Principled
Open-minded
Caring
Risk-takers
Balanced
Reflective
The attributes of the learner profile
express the values inherent to the IB continuum
of international education: these are values that
should infuse all elements of the three programmes
and, therefore, the culture and ethos of all IB World
Schools.
IB programmes promote the education of the whole
person, emphasizing intellectual, personal,
emotional and social growth through all
domains of knowledge. (www.ibo..org)

Assessment
• No external exams – internal assessment only
• Assessment: formative during a unit
summative at the end of each unit
