Guidelines for using the new Divine Liturgy Pew Prayer Book Our Church leadership has updated our liturgical books - correcting linguistic and other flaws and has asked all congregations to begin using the new liturgical books. Please note that the new prayer books include the silent prayers that the priest reads. They allow one to follow the the Divine Liturgy in detail. The silent priestly prayers are in red italics. The regular proclamations of the Priest or Deacon are in regular red print in the case of the priest or black in the case of the Deacon and the responses of the congregation are in black. All changes require adjustment, but taking the time to follow the Divine Liturgy in greater detail will be a very enriching experience. The Pew Prayer book is available for purchase for individual home use at $7.00 per copy.

Тими днями, коли сповнився день П’ятдесятниці, всі Апостоли однодушно знаходилися разом. І нагло зчинився шум з Неба, ніби буря раптова зірвалася, й переповнила увесь той дім, де сиділи вони. І явилися їм язики поділені, немов би огненні, та й на кожному з них по одному осів. Всі ж вони переповнились Духа Святого, й почали говорити іншими мовами, як їм Дух промовляти давав.

Перебували ж в Єрусалимі юдеї, люди побожні, від усякого народу під Небом. А коли оцей гомін зчинився, зібралася сила народу - та й диву далася, бо кожен із них тут почув, що вони розмовляли їх власним наріччям. Чудувалися ж всі й дивувалися, та й казали один до одного: “Хіба ж не галилеї всі ці, що говорять? Як же кожен із вас чує власне наріччя, що ми в нім народились? Парфяни й мідяни та еламіти, також мешканці Месопотамії, Юдеї та Каппадокії, Понту та Азії, і Фрігії та Памфілії, Єгипту й лівійських земель, край Кірени, і захожі римляни, юдеї й нововірці, крітяни й араби, - усі чуємо, що говорять вони про великі діла Божі мовами нашими”.

Lesson from the Acts of the Apostles – 2:1-11

When the day of Pentecost had arrived, all the Apostles gathered together in unity of mind. Suddenly, there came from heaven a sound like the blast of a mighty wind, which filled the whole house, where they were assembled. Thereupon, they saw tongues of fire, which were distributed and settled on each one of them. Then, they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in foreign languages, as the Spirit inspired them to express themselves.

At that time, there were devout Jews from every part of the world, living in Jerusalem. When they heard this sound, they all gathered in great excitement, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.

They were perfectly amazed and said in their astonishment: “All these who speak are Galileans. Yet, each one of us hears them speaking in his own native tongue. Parthians, Medians, Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Africa, and Cyrene; visitors from Rome, Jews, Proselytes, Cretans, and Arabs — we all hear them tell in our native languages the mighty deeds of God.”

GOSPEL – ЄВАНГЕЛІЯ Від Івана 7:37-52; 8:12 37. Останнього ж великого дня свята стояв Ісус і закликав на ввесь голос: «Коли спраглий хтось, нехай прийде до мене і п'є! 38. Хто вірує в мене, як Писання каже, то ріки води живої з нутра його потечуть!» 39. Так він про Духа казав, що його мали прийняти ті, які увірували в нього. Не прийшов був ще Дух Святий, бо Ісус не був ще прославлений. 40. Численні ж з народу, вчувши ті слова, казали: «Він дійсно пророк.» 41. Інші ж: «Він - Христос.» Ще інші: «Чи з Галилеї Христос прийде?

42. Хіба в Писанні не сказано, ще з роду Давидового Христос прийде, з села Вифлеєму, звідки був Давид?» 43. І роздор виник із-за нього серед народу. 44. Бажали і схопити його деякі, та ніхто не наклав рук на нього. 45. Повернулись, отже, слуги до первосвящеників та фарисеїв, а ті питають їх: «Чому не привели його?» 46. Слуги ж відказують: «Ніколи чоловік не говорив так, як цей чоловік говорить.» 47. Фарисеї ж: «Чи й не ви дали себе звести? 48. Невже хтось із старшини або фарисеїв увірував у нього? 49. Saint John 7:37-52; 8:12 On the last and greatest day of the festival Jesus stood up and exclaimed: “Whoever is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. As the Scripture says, streams of living water will flow from the heart of the man who believes in me.” He made this remark about the Spirit which those who believed in him were to receive. Now, the Holy Spirit had not yet come, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Some of the people who heard these words said: “This is certainly the Prophet.” Some said: “This is the Messiah.” Others said: “What! Does the Messiah come from Galilee? No, for the Scriptures say that he comes from the house of David, and from Bethlehem where David lived.” So a dissension arose among the crowd about him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.

Then the attendants went back to the high priests and Pharisees, who asked them: “Why did you not bring him?” The attendants replied: “No man ever spoke like this man.”

The Pharisees retorted: “Are you also led astray? Has any one of the leaders or of the Pharisees believed in him? But these common people who do not know the Law are cursed.”

Nicodemus, who came to Jesus by night and was one of his followers, asked them: “Does our Law condemn a man without giving him a hearing and finding out what he has done?” They answered him: “Are you also from Galilee? Study the Scriptures and you will find that no prophet has ever arisen from Galilee.”

Once more Jesus spoke to them and said: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darknes

СЛОВО ВІД ОТЦЯ ПАВЛА - FATHER PAWLO’S CORNER

БОЖЕСТВЕННЕ ВСТАНОВЛЕННЯ СВ. ЛІТУРГІЇ Літургію встановив Сам Господь Ісус Христос, коли перший раз звершив Таїнство Св. Причастя. Це сталося перед Його стражданням в четвер, коли Він на Тайній Вечері, умивши ноги своїм ученикам й віддавши похвалу Богові, взяв хліб у Свої пречисті руки, переломив його, подав ученикам і сказав: «Прийміть, споживайте, це єсть Тіло Моє, що за вас ламається на відпущення гріхів», а подавши чашу з вином, сказав: «Пийте від неї всі, це єсть Кров Моя Нового Заповіту, що за вас і за многтх проливається на відпущення гріхів». Запричастивши Апостолів Свойого Тіла й Своєї Крові, Ісус Христос дав їм, а в особах їх і всім віруючим, запвідь: «Це творіть на Мій Спомин», тобто, щоб вони на спомини Його страждань, і самі за Його прикладом творили це священнодійство до кінця віку. ІСТОРІЯ ЛІТУРГІЇ – ВСТАНОВЛЕННЯ ЧИНУ ЛІТУРГІЇ Свв. Апостоли, за прикладом свойого Господа та наказом Його, звершували Божественну Євхаристію. Згідно зі старим переказом, взірець священнодійства, за яким звершувалась Божественна Євахаристія, був уперше складений і списаний св. Апостолом Яковом, першим єрусалимським єпископом. Це й був перший писаний чин Літургії, яка відправлялась у Церкві Єрусалимській. Ще була й друга Літургія, св. Євангелиста Марка, вона відправлялась у Церкві Александрійській. Літургія св. Якова збереглась на сході й до наших днів; її навіть відправляють в день пам*яти цього Апостола. Але Літургія св. Якова була дуже велика. Св. Василій Великий, Архиєпископ Кесірійський, що жив в 4-му вівці, пристосовуючись до вимог Церкви, скоротив чин Літургії св. Якова, внісши до неї свої власні молитви, що їх читав священик. Св. Іван Золотоустий, що жив у тім же 4-м віці, скоротив ще Літургію Василія Великого, заступивши в ній деякі довгі молитви своїми коротшими. Так і постали ці дві Літургії. Вони увійшли в загальне вжиття у Вселенській Православній Церкві; в незміннім своїм виді вони вживаються і в наші часи. На час Чотиродесятниці (Великого Посту) Літургії св. Василія Великого і св. Івана Золотоустого були дуже урочисті, ому вже від 4-го віку у Великій Піст почалс відправляти Літургію Раніше Освячених Дарів, складену св. Григорієм Двоєсловом. Згідно з постановою 4-го Вселенського Собору, цю Літургію почали відправляти у всі дні Великого Посту, окрім субот, неділь і свята Благовіщення Пресвятій Діві Марії. Останніми часами вона відправляється в середу і п*ятницю впродовж усього Великого Посту, крім п*ятого тижня, коли вона відправляється у четвер. На Страстному тижні ця Літургія вдправляється у понеділок, вівторок і середу. Літургія Василія Великого відправляється в році 10 разів: п*ять разів у неділі Великого Посту, 1 січня ( вдень пам*яти Святителя), у Великий Четвер і Велику Суботу, перед Різдвом Христовим і Богоявленням, або, навіть, і в самі ці дні, коли навечір*я їх буває в суботу, або неділю. Літургію св. Івана Золотоустого відпряаляється у всі інші дні всього року.

УМОВН, БЕЗ ЯКИХ НЕ МОЖНА ВІДПРАВЛЯТИ СВ. ЛІТУРГІЇ Щоб Св. Літургія мала діючу силу, вона повинна відправлятися з виконанням цих вимог Церкви: 1\ Св. Літургію можуть відправляти тільки єпископи й свящeники, що одердали передбачене канонами свячення (хіротонію); 2\ Св. Літургію може відправляти єпископ, чи священик тільки один раз на день (нічого не ївши і підготовившись молитвою); на однім і тім же Престолі відправляється одна Літургія на день, на знак того, що на Літургії приноситься одна спасаюча жертва Єдинородного Сина Божого, один раз принесена на землі. 3\ Божественну Літургію можна відправляти тільки в Св. Хрaмі (Церкві), що в ній Престіл, або, в крайньому випадку, принаймі, св. Антимінс – обов’язково мусить бути посвячений Архиєреєм. Увага: а) Якщо не сам Архиєрей особист освячує св. Престіл, а доручає освятити його кому-небудь з пресвітерів, тоді посилає від себе освячений Антимінс, що покладається на Св. Престолі. б) У виключних випадках Св. Літургію можна відправляти – не в церкві – а в каплиці, в дома, під голим небом – однак, тільки за дозволом Архиєрея й на Св. Антимінсі, освяченому Архиєреєм. 4\ Св. Літургія може ввідправлятись у часі від 7 год. Ранку до полудня, тому, що в цім часі принесена Голгофська жертва за наші гріхи. 5\ Хліб, тобто, просфори, повинен бути квасний, чистий, пшеничний – вино природне, виноградне, червоне. 6\ Єпископ і священик при відправленні Св. Літургії повинні мати на собі належні священичі одяги. 7\ На Престолі і на Жертівнику – має бути належний священний посуд ( чаша, дискос, звіздиця з покрівцями і воздухом, копіє, ложечка, губка) – і церковні предмети: хрест, Євангелія, свічкі та інше. ПОДІЛ СВ. ЛІТУРГІЇ З огляду на те, що Св. Літургії не тільки освячуються Св. Дари, що ними причащаються вірні, а також на ній представляється в символічних священнодійствах усе життя Ісуса Христа – Літургія ділиться на три головні частини, що теж називаються Службами, чи Літургіями: перша «приносною», чи з грецького Проскомідією: друга – загальною , або Літургією оголошених: третя – таємничою, або Літургією вірних. На першій – приготовляються для звершення Св. Тайни Євхаристії, принесені для цієї Ьайни хліб і вино. Проскомідія – представляє Різдво Ісуса Христа у Вифлеємі. На Літургії загальній – оголошених – вірні приготовляються до Св. Тайни Євхаристії, до якої не можна приступити безособливо дбайливого приготовлення наших замислів, нашого серця, взагалі, нашої душі. На цій Літургії представляється прилюдне життя Ісуса Христа. Н Літургії вірних – твориться сама Тайна Св. Євхаристії, вірні причащаються Тіла й Крові Господньої. На цій Літургії представляється – страсті, смерть, воскресення і вознесення Ісуса Христа. Sermon - S U N D A Y OF P E N T E C O S T On the day of Holy Pentecost, for the first time after the Paschal Feast, in all the churches the hymn to the Holy Spirit resounds: “O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth…” and quite involuntarily, we experience the influence of a great, universal, all-pervading., life-giving and regenerating Power. In the Old Testament days, the Holy Spirit illuminated only chosen individuals – the Prophets – through whom He announced His Will to the world. On the fiftieth day after the glorious Resurrection

of our Lord, the Holy Spirit descended on Christ’s Apostles visibly to the people who had come from different countries to the Holy City of Jerusalem on the occasion of the Feast of Pentecost. As. St. Luke recounts: Now when the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance. The rushing wind is a power, a yearning, a free impulse. It is the emblem of freedom, of creative will and of inspiration. It is the emblem of the religious impulses of the soul. The Lord in His talk with Nicodemus, compared the influence of the Holy Spirit on the human soul to a rushing wind: The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit. The Lord spoke of man’s birth of the Spirit, that is, of the regeneration of the human soul, of its rebirth for a new life, which is accomplished through the power and descent of the Holy Spirit: This grace-bestowing influence, the beginning of which dates from the moment of Holy Baptism, can regenerate a man, can renovate him entirely, not as a son of sin, but according to St. John the Apostle, as the son of God. On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles in the form of divided tongues, like fire. This fire can reduce to ashes all our sins, it can burn all the rubbish accumulated during the passing of years in our souls, that we, being weak-willed, hesitate to cast out ourselves. The Holy Spirit, like an internal fire, inspires us to spiritual endeavor; to perfect ourselves and to overcome life’s adversities. Without the sacred fire of the divine inspiration that the Holy Spirit kindles in our souls we would not be capable either of good deeds or of spiritual endeavor. The Holy Spirit, as the internal light of our soul, illumines the road of our life, enlightens hearts that have been plunged in darkness, teaches us to comprehend the mysteries of the Heavenly World, and the Divine intentions of gracious, beneficent Providence. The power of the Holy Spirit is a life-giving influence: Every soul is enlivened by the Holy Spirit. The Lord spoke to His disciples of this life-giving influence: He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. St. John the Evangelist, explaining these words, states that the Lord said these things of the Holy Spirit, that those who believed in Christ were to receive. A man who has believed in our Lord Jesus Christ and who has received the promised life-giving Spirit, becomes a spiritual source of living water not only for himself, but for others too. Such sources of living water were the Saints of God, the great luminaries of Faith and Piety, who from the heights to which they were raised, shed light on all around them and quenched the spiritual thirst of all those who came to them for consolation. From the day of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Church of Christ, He has become for us Christians a Comforter in our sorrows. He consoles us in our misfortunes, helps us to bear our trials, and teaches us how to live. He has revealed Himself to us as a Spirit of Truth, foretelling the future, as the Life-giving Power, that animates the whole world, as an inexhaustible source of goodness, love and mercy. There is often a lack of peace in our souls: they are full of dirt and falsehood. They are often full of confusion, and we often cannot tell where Truth is. We must remember the words of the Lord during the Last Supper: And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever… But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. So let us, beloved brothers and sisters, always pray to our Lord, the Holy Spirit, with fervency and a pure heart: “O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth who are everywhere and fills all things, Treasury of blessings and Giver of Life: Come and abide in us cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O Good One” Amen

5. Congratulations are extended to two of our volunteer Pastoral Committee

members on receiving special recognition from the Regina-Qu’Appelle Health

District for their volunteer work. Both were recognized at a special event honoring

volunteers. Natalie Senyk was recognized with a twenty-year pin and Gloria Silcox with a fifteen

year pin. Congratulations Ladies and thank you for your years of service to our community and

we pray that our Lord bless you richly for your faithfulness.

6. St. Petro Mohyla 2017 Ukrainian Summer Immersion, Cultural and Leadership

Camp July 29 – August 12, 2017. The Program will be a two-week long camp consisting of

formal language instruction in the Ukrainian language and a focus on Ukrainian culture and

leadership training. See poster for more detail on Sobor Lower Level bulletin board or speak to

Board members Steve Senyk or Gerry Luciuk.

7. Used Eyeglasses - Please donate your used eyeglasses to the Lions International to help those

in need in the developing countries. A collection box is located at the entrance to the church - in
