May they rest in peace, and may their families find comfort

from their faith in Jesus Christ.

Dear Friends, In a recent cartoon about the Holy Father, he is explaining to someone that the Easter Season is 50 days long, making it ten days longer than Lent. The person asks why it is so and his response is, “Some Christians just need more practice!” I suspect we all know about the season of Lent and the need for repentance, however, I wonder if we know how to live in the joy of the resurrection. Elsewhere, in one of his many speeches, Pope Francis gives us these words: “Do not be sad men and women, A Christian can never be sad! Our joy springs from our having encountered Jesus Christ. Trust in Him because he never disappoints! He is a good friend that is always at our side: he is a patient father. May the joy and the peace of the Lord be always with you.” While not ignoring the state of the world, Pope Francis is of the firm belief that the joy of our Christian faith can change not only ourselves but also the world in which we live. As you may remember, I was in Rome last week for a conference for the Missionaries of Mercy. At that conference, the Holy Father spoke to us on the practice of mercy in the world. “Misericordes Sicut Pater, means Merciful Like the Father. The word, “Misericordes,” means entering into the heart of the wounded, afflicted, alienated, with mercy, not judgment. His gentle encouragement and firm instruction is that priests should always demonstrate the mercy of God, but most especially in the confessional. This may bring back some unpleasant memories for some Catholics who were not treated so well in the confessional. Some have never returned to the sacrament or have simply dismissed its necessity or effectiveness in their lives. Years ago, those of us of a certain era, would have heard the phrase, “Easter Duty.” It meant then and now, that Catholics should experience the grace of reconciliation at least once a year, especially during the Easter season. I can attest to the unfathomable grace of the sacrament as one who receives such grace and as the humble instrument of such grace given to others who come and seek it out. I invite all of you to take great care and listen to the invitation God is offering to you to be reconciled in the promise of the resurrection. As the Lord himself has said, “Be not afraid, I go before you.” In other words, he guides along the path to love and mercy. Remember, you know your priests here; we’re kind people! Peace, Fr. Michael

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

RELIGIOUS ED FAMILIES Welcome back! We hope you enjoyed your Spring Vacation! High School II Class is scheduled this Sun., April 22nd. Classes for Grades 1-8 will resume on Monday, April 23rd and Tuesday, April 24th (final scheduled classes). Please remember that there is one more High School I Class scheduled on Sunday, April 29th, 6-9PM.

REGISTRATION!  Especially in light of this year’s transition, we would like to complete our registration process for the 2018-2019 school year before the summer break and while we still have clerical help, we are asking parents to register your children NOW. Registration forms may be picked up, completed and left for us on the table outside the Religious Ed. Office in the Parish Family Center. Each form is numbered as it comes in. Although we try to honor your choice, we can only guarantee your choice of day for the first 100 families. Early registration is to your advantage as parents retain the ability to make changes to your choice of day up until mid-August should your schedule change later on in the spring.  Questions? Please call the Religious Ed Office.

Confirmation Rite of Enrollment Please pray for our 39 high school students who will be celebrating their Rite of Enrollment for Confirmation this Sunday at the 9:45AM Mass. We invite their sponsors and all the

catechists who have taught them over the years to join them, along with their parents and our parish family, as they declare their desire to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Fall 2018.

Make-up Sessions for children who have missed

four or more Religious Ed Classes: Parents have been notified and work has been sent home to be completed with your help in advance of coming in for the make-up session. Grades 1-5, please come

on either Monday or Tuesday (your choice)

April 30th or May 1st during class time from

4:15-5:15PM. If the make-up packet has been completed well at home, it often does not take the full hour to review work, so if parents are able to wait, you can leave as soon as your child is ready to go. Grades 6-7-8, on Monday, April 30th,

students will meet for the full time from 6:45-

8PM, which incorporates not only classroom teaching but also a small portion of the experience of prayer and reflection that is missed when a student is absent.

First Eucharist will be celebrated on Sat., May 5th at 11AM and Sun., May 6th during the 9:45AM liturgy. Children should attend the 4:15PM practice with a parent on Wed., May 2nd

for the Saturday 11AM Liturgy and Friday, May 4th for the Sunday 9:45AM liturgy. Readers and singers should arrive at 3:45 PM on the day of your practice. Please pray for our children and their families, that they may continue to be nourished by the Body and Blood of our Lord all through their lives.

Prayer Partners who would like to know which Liturgy your child your child will be celebrating can find the list on the window of the Religious Ed work office.

As the Religious Ed. year closes, there is still an exciting opportunity for our high school kids to gather as a community: Summer Co-ed

Volleyball League. Matches are on six consecutive Tuesday nights starting in July. Our Lady of the Lake’s team will begin practice soon! Kids come with a wide range of experience and skill! The team is open to kids graduating from 8th grade this spring through high school graduates. Call the Religious Ed. Office for more info or to sign up.
