Kerala was getting ready to welcome this year’s Onam with gladness and festive throng, when it was suddenly inundated by unabated rains followed by landslides and overflowing dams. Water rushed forward, even into areas that were considered safe and secure. For a moment our land stood stunned. Then all the people of the land, regardless of caste or creed, rose to the occasion, hand in hand, determined to overcome the fury of the flooding waters and the unceasing rains. Even places of worship became accommodation camps. The divide that existed between the haves and have-nots disappeared – people united in friendship, sharing the same mat and eating from the same plate. The expatriates prayed with tears for the land, for their near and dear ones. All were prepared to provide all possible help. Having seen and touched the tragedy that befell our hometowns, our Parish and our Yuvajana Sakhyam gave up all cele-bration plans and got together to send clothes, food items and other essentials to the devastated areas for distribution to the needy persons through the Kendra Yuvajana Sakhyam. We acknowledge our heartfelt gratitude to all the parishion-ers for their participation.

The work to restore our land to its former state will need our continuing support. The Labour Camp Ministry of our Yuvajana Sakhyam plans to focus on rebuild-ing our land this year. Let us all pray and participate in this noble cause.Homeland Fellowship, which is our Parish’s platform for meeting in Kerala, conducted a blessed meeting this year. We felicitate the organizers of the meet-ing. May God enable our children to resume school with enthusiasm after summer vacation. Best wishes for the activities of our SevikaSangham as part of the Mar Thoma Sevika Sangham which is celebrating its centenary year.
