NEW HYMN BOOKS ON THE WAY We are happy to announce that this spring, our parish will be getting new hymn books. We are currently using the well-loved and well-worn first edition of “Journeysongs”, the “blue hymnal” which has served us well for almost thirty years. These will be replaced by the “Journeysongs, Third Edition”, bound in an attractive green hardcover to keep in the pews. You can take part in this liturgical enrichment by memorializing a hymnal in memory of a deceased loved one, or honoring a living person with the gift of a hymnbook donated in their name. All the books will remain in the church for the congregation's use, and a commemorative plate will be inscribed with the honoree's name inside the book. The cost of dedicating a hymnbook will be $30.

Please cut and return this form to the parish office or drop in the collection baskets during the masses in a closed envelope along with a check or cash amount of $30.00 for each memorialized book you’d like. We ask that you do not add more than two names, if possible, so that the text will fit. Any questions, please call the parish office at 718.278.1834.

FROM THE OGLE OFFICE Dear friends, This week you are all invited to celebrate the 12 Noon Mass in the lower church with us on Tuesday, May 1, for the feast of St Joseph the Worker. On this occasion we will bless stained glass windows and Stations of the Cross that had been originally erected in the nuns’ chapel of the parish’s 1954 “new” school, which now houses the TYWLS of the Board of Education. Those items were recently relocated to the lower church (except for two, now placed in the ramp-vestibule of the upper church.) The occasion also gives us the opportunity to celebrate the work of the Sisters of St Joseph of Brentwood NY who founded the parish school here in 1890 and helped staff it until 1994. A member of their community, General Councilor Sister Tesa Fitzgerald, CSJ, will join us as lector for the Mass. The Sisters of St Joseph who reside in the convents of St Patrick Dutch Kills and St Rita Ravenswood have been invited, as well as other Sisters who have been associated with our parish or parish school. (You can see the list of these windows and their 1954 donors below.) In addition, the Stations of the Cross were given at that time in memory of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas M. Quinn Sr., the founder of the well-known local funeral home. (The original Mr. Quinn himself also donated the 1915 stained-glass Nativity window in the choir-loft of the upper church.) On the same day, we will bless and formally install our new icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa, commonly known as “The Black Madon-na”, which Fr. Wlad Kubrak has graciously provided to us. Thus it is that the main celebrant of the Mass will be the Reverend Tadeusz Liz-inczyk OSPPE, provincial and rector of the Shrine in Doylestown PA. His community, the Pauline Fathers, are entrusted with the consecra-tion of such images around the world. We are honored to have Father Lizinczyk with us for this event. Afterwards we will have a light re-ception for those at the Mass. On Saturday May 5, we will celebrate the First Holy Communion Mass of our parish children. Please remember them in your prayers, that they and their families will always remain as close to Our Lord as on that very happy day. Thanks to our CRE Nelly Gutierrez and our dedicated catechists for helping prepare these children so well. Finally, I thank you for your very edifying response thus far to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal. As of April 23 we have pledged $27,990, or 47% of our goal, from 109 donors. (This does not include the response to the in-pew appeal of April 22.) Please do your best to help us reach our diocesan goal and exceed it for our parish projects. All these funds are a great help to the pastoral ministry here. Thank you for your support, and for “answering the call” to serve one another in the Lord.

God love you Msgr. Ogle

Sean G. Ogle

Prayer of the Week

Heart Gifts by Helen Steiner Rice It's not the things that can be bought That are life's riches treasure, It's just a little “heart gifts” That money cannot measure. A cheerful smile, a friendly word, A sympathetic nod Are priceless little treasures From the storehouse of our God. They are the things that can't be bought With silver or with gold, For thoughtfulness and kindness and love are never sold. They are the priceless things in life For which no one can pay And the giver finds recompense In giving them away.
