Our Parish Mission Statement

The Parish of St. John Bosco is a

multi-cultural, multi-lingual Catholic Faith community that proclaims

Jesus Christ. In the spirit of St. John Bosco, we do this by being a Home

that welcomes all especially the young and the poor; a School that prepares for life through religious, educational and social services; a Parish that evangelizes through

Word & Sacrament, Worship and Faith Formation; a Playground

where lasting friendship and relationships are formed and

developed through recreational and social opportunities

From the Desk of Fr. Pat Desde el Escritorio de P. Pat

This weekend we celebrate the beautiful Feast of Pentecost and we bring our Easter season to a close. God, the Holy Spirit, remains with us giving life and energy and fire to our Faith. The Holy Spirit, Love in the Blessed Trinity, showers us with His gifts so that we might live our Catholic Christian faith fully, and that the knowledge and strength of the Resurrection of Jesus empowers us to live in “ordinary time” proclaiming Jesus in our words and actions. The question is: are we using the gifts the Holy Spirit is giving us to do this? We live in an age of very many intelligent people who choose to separate reason from faith and so ignore the splendor of truth to proclaim their own truth: there is no God— and they mock those of us who believe as being fools. Really??? The Holy Spirit gives us the gifts of Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding. Gifts that tell us we are finite and so we don’t have all the answers— we have the wisdom to understand that the universe does not rotate around “me”. The Holy Spirit gives us the gift to accept that “ I don’t know” in humility, instead of arrogantly proclaiming that because I don’t know, it cannot be! The Holy Spirit comes with the gift of Fear of the Lord — not fear in the sense of being afraid of God — but fear in the sense of being in AWE of God! God is God: infinite, omnipotent, Creator of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. I am a finite human being. In the presence of God, I can have only one truly human response: to bow in awe and adoration and thanksgiving. And with the gift of the Fear of the Lord the Holy Spirit gives the gift of Piety — the reverence that children should have for their parents who give them life. I am a finite, limited creature dependent on the almighty, merciful and loving Creator, God! And because I realize all life comes from Him — my life comes from Him, I have nothing but reverence, respect, awe and gratitude towards Him. This is the gift of the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit comes with the gift of Counsel which helps us to judge promptly and rightly in difficult situations. Sometimes, we have an almost instinctive sense that something is not good for us… or something is right for us. At times this also happens when someone comes to ask us for advice, we have a deep sense of the answer we must give to help the person. All of this is from the gift of counsel — or “right judgement” as it is sometimes called. The Holy Spirit is guiding us to keep us from wrong — we need to be attentive enough to listen! Perhaps, the gift most needed today is the gift of Courage! To live our faith as faithful disciples in a non—believing world takes a lot of courage. So many times we give into “human respect” and fail to do what we know our faith in Jesus tells us because we are afraid: afraid of what other people will say or think; afraid we will look like religious “fanatics”; afraid if we say “yes” to this, God will ask for more. We are afraid to live our faith in the public square. We need the gift of courage to stand for our beliefs, fight for our beliefs, and, yes, even, maybe, pay a heavy price in suffering for our beliefs! On our own we can’t. With the Holy Spirit and the gift of courage, when we are weakest we can be most strong! These gifts were given to each of us on the day of our Confirmation. Do we use them? Do we ask the Holy Spirit for help? They were given to us to help us live our faith as “adult” Christians. Today, we beg the Holy Spirit to come, to fill our hearts and to make us witnesses to His love, proclaiming our faith in our thoughts, words, actions and attitudes! Come, Holy Spirit, Come! God bless you!

Nós pedimos a ajuda do Espirito Santo?

Czasami tez pomagamy innym w wyborze rozsądnej decyzji. Musimy się otworzyć i wsłuchać w Ducha Sw. Odwaga to kolejny dar. Duch Sw. wesprze nas w słabościach i zwatpieniach i uczyni nas silnymi. Te wszystkie dary otrzymaliśmy podczas bierzmowania.Czy z nich korzystamy? Czy prosimy Ducha Sw. o pomoc? Dziś błagamy Ducha Sw. aby napełnił nas swoją światłością ,umocnił nas, pocieszył i pouczał. O przyjdź Duchu Święty przyjdź !! Z Bożym błogosławieństwem .

TO OUR CHILDREN AND PARENTS “On the evening of that first day of the

week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the

Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” JOHN 20:19 In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus appears to his

disciples and says to them, “Peace be with you.” One of the greatest gifts we can give to our children and to our families is the gift of peace. Peace is a Fruit of the Holy Spirit, a visible sign to others that we are living

under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and according to the laws and commands of God. Take time today to

think about the gift of Christ’s peace in your own life and be determined to bring this peace to others in

school, at home, at work, and in the world. God Bless You! Questions of the Week: Where are you called to

take the gift of Christ’s peace today?
