The feast of the Immaculate Conception
The feast of the Immaculate Conception,
is a day of obligation for all Catholics.
This means, all Catholics are required to
attend Mass just like a normal Sunday
obligation. WE will have the Vigil Mass
on Monday, Dec. 7th at 7:00 pm and
Tuesday, Dec.8th. at 8;00 am.
The feast celebrates the truth, declared
by Pope Pius IX in 1854, that Mary, the mother of Jesus,
was conceived without original sin. Because Mary was free
from inheriting the guilt of the first sin committed by Adam
and Eve, only she was worthy and freely disposed to be the
mother of the savior, the Mother of God. Popularly, it is one
of the oldest Marian feasts, dating back to the seventh cen-
tury. In 1846, Mary was proclaimed patroness of the United
States under this title. By her faith, obedience and holiness,
she teaches what it means to be a bearer of Christ to the
world.
In 1991, the U.S. bishops voted to lift the obligation of at-
tending Mass for U.S. Catholics on three specific holy days
of obligation whenever those feasts occur on a Saturday or a
Monday—the feast of Mary Mother of God, Jan. 1st; the
feast of the Assumption, Aug. 15; and the feast of All
Saints, Nov. 1. This decision was approved by the Vatican.
All other holy days, including the feast of the Immaculate
Conception, continue to be celebrated as holy days of obli-
gation, no matter the day of the week on which they fall.

There will be choir practice for the Midnight
Mass in the Church on Wednesday, December 9th
and 16th right after 6:00 Mass. If you enjoy sing-
ing, and would like to participate in this wonderful
Christmas celebration, come and join our choir on

Angel Tree and Ladies Guild Food Drive
Our Parish every Christmas puts up an
Angel Tree on the altar and in addition the La-
dies Guild has a food drive. The reasoning for
this tree and food drive is to help families in
our community to have a better Christmas
Holiday. Any donations will be appreciated.
Because of our parish donations, we will be
able to provide poinsettias for the elderly,
provide needy families with hot meals, and al-
so what is left over will be divided and donat-
ed to God’s Storehouse, The Women’s Shel-
ter, The Child’s Advocacy, and Santa for all
Seasons!
Please turn your angel in by December 13th.
Donations can be put in the collection
basket or you can drop off at the Church
Office. Thank You!
