W hat is the position of the Catholic Church con-cerning vaccinations in general?
The Church teaches the process of de-veloping vaccines should always re-spect the human dignity of all persons, including the unborn. Avoidance of vaccination carries with it dangerous and potentially deadly consequences for the most vulnerable in society. The Catholic Church strongly supports vac-cination and regards Catholics as hav-ing a duty to be vaccinated, not only for the sake of their own health but also out of solidarity with others, especially the most vulnerable. “Forgive us our trespasses as we for-give those who trespass against us.” (Mt 6:12) You could read that as a warning that God only forgives those who forgive others. Paul reverses that conditional meaning to say that we forgive because God has already for-given us. Jesus died on the cross to show that God forgives sins you have not even yet committed. We have to want to be forgiven and accept that gift from God. And we also have to be willing to forgive those who have hurt us. There are many ways to do that. One is to forgive in your heart. If it is someone you love, you know they did not mean to hurt you and so you don’t get angry at them. If you don’t love the one who hurt you, you still need to forgive, so you can let go of the hurt. Paul also tells us to be kind and com-passionate (Eph 4:32.) We can go to the next step after forgiving in our hearts: We show our forgiveness in our actions. A friend or relative might get a hug; others might get a handshake or words of forgiveness. Jesus showed how much God wants to forgive us by his death on the cross. Because we are forgiven, we are then able to forgive others. So while God’s love and for-giveness are always first, we must be able to forgive others so that we can accept it from God.

Décimo 9o domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
En el Evangelio de Juan, Jesús insiste una y otra vez en que él es el pan de vida; cuando nota que a algunos de sus oyen-tes les cuesta trabajo creerlo, él insiste en ello con más fuer-za. Nótese que muchos siglos antes de que los cristianos celebraran a Jesús como el Pan de Vida en la Eucaristía, el salmista canta: “¡Gusten y vean qué bueno es el Señor!” El Evangelio de Juan no contiene la bendición del pan y el cáliz que la Iglesia utiliza para consagran ese pan y ese vino. Lo que sí tiene Juan es a Jesús lavando los pies de los discípulos y ordenándoles que se laven los pies unos a otros, es decir, que entre ellos mismos se sirvan sin impor-tar su posición o rango. Él también da un discurso prolon-gado a manera de oración en el que da el “mandamiento nuevo” de amarse los unos a los otros. Recibir la Sagrada Comunión es mucho más que un momento de “yo y Jesús”, aunque sin duda es un encuentro precioso. En última instan-cia, nuestra recepción del Pan de Vida alcanza su plenitud sólo en nuestro amor y servicio mutuos en nuestras comuni-dades y más allá. Dios alimentó a Eliseo para fortalecerlo en su viaje. Dios alimentó a los israelitas con el maná en su viaje por el desierto. Hoy, recibimos de Dios el Pan de Vida para fortalecernos en cualquier viaje que hagamos.

La Iglesia enseña que el proceso de desarrollo de vacunas siempre debe respetar la dignidad humana de todas las personas, incluidos los no nacidos. FEAST OF FAITH Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus: Song of Heaven The words of the Sanctus are rooted in the scriptures. They recall the song of the ser-aphim in the prophet Isaiah’s vision of God in majesty: “Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they veiled their faces, with two they veiled their feet, and with two they hovered aloft. ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts!’ they cried one to the other. ‘All the earth is filled with his glory!’ ” (Isaiah 6:2-3). They recall the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ entry into Jerusa-lem: “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; ho-sanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9). Yet the liturgy adds something new to these ancient texts. The seraphim sang, “the earth is filled with his glory.” But the liturgy proclaims, “heaven and earth are full of your glory.” In the Eucharist, earth and heaven meet. For a moment in time, we join in the song that the angels sing for all time. The Sanctus raises us to heaven, but does not remove us from the earth. FIESTA DE LA FE Dudas naturales Es común que muchos cristianos vean la Eucaristía como un signo y no como una pre-sencia real, dudan de que Cristo esté verdade-ramente presente en el pan y el vino. La duda es natural y puede ser un buen medio para lle-gar a la verdad. La narración de la Institución está ligada a una tradición viva que los apósto-les escucharon directamente de labios de Jesús. ¡Sí! El mismo que había caminado sobre el agua, que había perdonado pecados, sanado enfermos de todo tipo; el mismo que había dado de comer a las multitudes y que había resucitado a Lázaro. Jesús el que se había transfigurado en la cima del monte. Por si to-dos sus milagros fueran pocos, el mismo que fue resucitado por Dios de entre los muertos. Ese mismo les había dicho: “esto es mi cuerpo, que será entregado por ustedes”; además dijo: “este es el cáliz de mi Sangre, sangre de la alianza nueva y eterna que será derramada por vosotros y por todos los hombres para el per-dón de los pecados. Hagan esto en memoria mía”. Por esa “sencilla” razón los cristianos no sólo celebramos la Eucaristía, sino que tam-bién creemos firmemente que el pan es su Cuerpo y el cáliz contiene su Sangre. Saturday Mass News Due to concerns about the rise in Covid variant cases, we will not yet resume the Saturday vigil Masses - the 5:00PM and 6:30PM. While we were happily awaiting to welcome these assemblies back on Au-gust 8, it is recommended to wait until the situation improves. Our new date for re-suming 5:00 PM English and 6:30 PM Spanish Masses is Saturday, September 11. We hope to see you then. Thank you.
