Sixth Sunday of Easter
The Knights of Columbus Council Pope Saint John Paul II Scholarship was established in 2005, with the encouragement of Msgr. Benwell, the Council's Charter Chaplain and former Pastor of Our Lady of the Mount.
The $1,000 stipend, created in honor of Pope John Paul II, is awarded to an outstanding OLM graduating high school senior who maintains exceptional grades, while actively participating in church and community activities. A winner of the award is chosen on that basis by a committee of the Council's Past Grand Knights in late May. The applicant does not need to be a child of a Knight.
Applications are available in the Knights of Columbus folder at the bottom of the front stairwell. This year the closing date is May 21st. The scholarship will be presented to the winner at a June Council meeting.

In GratitudeDear Parish Family of Our Lady of the Mount,
Sincerest best wishes to you as we proclaim the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior!
Please know of our parish's deepest gratitude for donations received at Easter time for the
needs of our families.
The more than 90 food boxes filled with staples able to be shared at the tables of our
families in need and the monetary support of over $1,900.00 was a true expression of God's
love as we celebrate His feast of life. Our charity commission members who distributed the
items to the arriving families shared with me the bright smiles and genuine reactions of
admiration toward such abundant generosity. You have made such a difference in the lives of
so many at this time and we are humbled and so very grateful for your thoughtfulness and
charity. Life's journey is always asking our hearts to enlighten the path we share and through
God's grace and your shared faith you have truly given a new hope to our pilgrimage here in
Perth Amboy!
Please be assured of our prayers for your wonderful parish community and for Fr. Sean
as pastor and the many Knights of Columbus who coordinated with all the details the arrival of
your gifts.
In the love of the Risen Lord,
Msgr. John Gordon
Pastor
100th Anniversary of the May 13th Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima
_____________________________________________________
On May 13, 2017, we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the first apparition of the Virgin Mary to three little shepherds in Fatima, Portugal: Jacinta Marto, aged 7, her brother Francisco, aged 9, and their cousin Lucia Dos Santos, aged 10. The miracles, prophecies, and prayers that Our Lady told the children amazed the
whole world. During the first apparition, Mary asked the three children to say the Rosary daily and to make sacrifices for the conversion of sinners. She also
asked them to return to that spot on the thirteenth of each month for the next five months.
What is the message of Fatima? Prayer, penance, and conversion. The Virgin Mary came to Fatima to ask us “to stop offending God, Our Lord, who is already very offended.” She requested that the little shepherds:
“Pray, pray much and make sacrifices for sinners; many souls go to hell because they have no one to pray and make sacrifices for them.” Later, the Virgin Mary stated that God wished to establish devotion to her
Immaculate Heart in the world by means of the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays. This devotion, and the Marian apparitions at Fatima, have been officially embraced by the Church.
Earlier this year, the Vatican announced that Francisco and Jacinta, who were beatified on May 13, 2000, will be canonized on May 13, 2017. Pope Francis will celebrate Mass in honor of Our Lady of Fatima and canonize
Francisco and Jacinta Marto at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, Portugal. They will be numbered among the youngest saints in the history of the Catholic Church.
The Most Reverend James F. Checchio, Bishop of Metuchen, will celebrate Mass for Home School Students and their Families Wednesday, June 7, 2017 10:00 a.m. St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church 105 Mine St, Flemington, NJ 08822 Light refreshments and fellowship to follow. On Pentecost Sunday, June 3-4
Read an Intercession in the Language of Your Heritage
Our Parish Family is comprised of many people whose native tongue is not English. As we ponder the gift bestowed by the Holy
Spirit enabling the Apostles to be understood by all, let us celebrate our diversity. If you would like to read an Intercession in
the language of your heritage during the Prayer of the Faithful at Mass on Pentecost June 3-4, please email
[email protected] or call Laura Sepesi in the Parish Office at 908-647-1075 ext. 103. Indicate your language spoken
and Mass time preference.
