Easter Thoughts

It seems that Christmas is hardly over before we see

Easter eggs and hot cross buns on the supermarket

shelves. In fact, one person did tell me they had seen

cream eggs on a shop’s display on Boxing Day. Now,

many of us like a cream egg, or a warm, hot cross bun;

but there’s more to Easter than that. More even than the

Easter bunny, lambs, or bunches of daffodils.

Easter is about new life. It comes, in the Northern Hemi-

sphere, in the season of new life, Spring. The time of

year when buds are bursting, flowers blossoming, lambs

gambolling are all signs of new life. The new life of Easter

though, comes through the Resurrection of Jesus. It is

the ultimate sign of new life, which transforms darkness

into light and hope.

It’s easy to celebrate Christmas, with its story of a baby in

a manger; much more difficult, perhaps, to celebrate

Easter. But it is the celebration of the new life the baby

was born to bring. So why not come and join us in cele-

brating that new life this Easter?

Craigiebuckler & Seafield

Community Council

The Community Council were delighted to have con-

tributed to the Festive Season in Craigiebuckler by

donating towards the cost of the Christmas tree in

the Church grounds, the installation of the decorative

street lights on Springfield Road and Craigiebuckler

Seniors' Club film night.

Craigiebuckler Church would like to express our

grateful thanks to the Community Council for their

contribution.

Instant Neighbour

We were delighted that, following our Christmas Ser-

vices, we were able to send £800 to Instant Neighbour

for their work in supporting some of the most vulnerable

families in our city. This money will help to keep ser-

vices running, helping those who are homeless or

caught in poverty.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Christmas

services and supported this hard-working local charity.

Improved Church Access

We have improved access to the church recently by

installing handrails on either side of the front door,

and a new ramp with a much lesser gradient to allow

easier access for wheelchairs and those with reduced

mobility.

The Church’s Communications Group is undertaking a

review as to how we can reach out to the Community

in a meaningful way in the 21st Century. Most of us

have some form of access to Social Media.

Social Media is now the accepted norm in today’s high

-tech world. We, as a Congregation, have to embrace

it. To that end we are looking to begin using Facebook

to engage with all age ranges, from people using our

halls, to the various Church organisations in a more

relaxed and informal manner.

Watch this space as we populate the Facebook

Page with details of all that happens in Craigiebuck-

ler Church. Look out for “Craigiebuckler Parish

Church” on Facebook or by typing in: https://

www.facebook.com/Craigiebuckler-Parish-Church-

2023551174327849/ in the Address Bar and make

sure that you Like or Follow our Posts. That way we

all can constructively share information and make

improvements.

Christmas Community Event

The Christmas Community event on Sunday 3rd De-

cember was a great success with approximately 150

attending. Our Minister, Kenneth, received the follow-

ing email about the afternoon:

“Everyone, and I mean everyone, is talking about what

a wonderful time they had this afternoon. It was indeed

a Grand Day Out.

The atmosphere was so relaxed….people were mixing

and chatting easily…the kids were having a ball…the

hot chocolate was bang on…it was a real pleasure

seeing so many singing Christmas Carols on the front

lawn, and the carol booklets were impressively profes-

sional too…etc, etc. In short…it was a big hit; plus it

attracted a lot of new faces we don’t normally see

around the church. Hope we can build on this and do it

again next year! Thanks…well done! ”

We hope this will become an annual event in the Crai-

giebuckler calendar and get bigger and better. If you

have any thoughts on what we can include in the after-

noon, please get in touch.

Guild Coffee Morning

The Guild Coffee Morning is on Saturday 14th April

from 10am to 12 noon in the Church Hall. There will be

a cake & candy stall, chocolate stall, bric-a-brac and

raffle stalls. Tickets cost £2 including refreshments.

Come along, meet up with your friends, and have a

chat and a coffee.
