Dear Park’s Edge Preschool Families:
Treasure 2016 Christmas season’s happy memories…I hope you had the opportunity to join us for PEP’s Christmastime highlights. PEP’s Christmas Party with Santa Claus and ‘Jesus’ Birthday Celebration’ has become favorite ‘family’ traditions here. I also want to say ‘thank you’ for remembering staff at Christmastime. The gifts of love that are showered on the staff and me at this busy time of year are truly appreciated. Thank you!
‘The ABC’s of Christmas’ allowed small groups of children to walk down the center aisle representing symbols of Christmas correlated with each letter of the alphabet. After the program, all in attendance was treated to ‘Jesus’ birthday cake and ice cream. Thank you for bringing ‘Jesus’ Birthday Gifts’ (non-perishable food). The food donations collected will soon be picked up by the Hunger Task Force. Food donations are always welcome at Emanuel Church; hunger is year round, and affects all ages. A big thank you to the many Emanuel Church friends: Nancy Erenz-pianist; Ron and Judi Abramowski-greeters; John Zimmerman-sound system; and Hank Erenz-parking attendant. Their help makes Park’s Edge Preschool’s Annual Christmas Program a success. Special thanks to ‘Pastor Bill’ for his availability and a lesson shared with the children at PEP’s Jesus’ Birthday Celebration similar to ‘Children’s Time’ of Emanuel Church’s worship service.
Sunday, January 29th
is CHHSM Sunday. Park’ Edge Preschool has been a member of the United Church of Christ’s Council for Health and Human Service Ministries since June 1999. CHHSM Sunday gives Emanuel Church/Park’s Edge Preschool’s families an opportunity to celebrate Park’s Edge Preschool’s ministry serving Hales Corners and the surrounding community with Christian child care. Anyone who is in the health and human service professions is invited to participate in the ‘blessing of the hands’ ceremony. Park’s Edge Preschool families are invited to attend Emanuel Church’s Worship Service for an exciting opportunity to learn more about Emanuel Church and CHHSM. March 2nd-4th, 2017 CHHSM’s Annual Meeting will be held in Milwaukee, WI. The opening worship service will be held here at Emanuel Church on Thursday, March 2nd. Park’s Edge Preschool families are invited to attend. Watch for details in February.
The New Year at Park’s Edge Preschool gives us an opportunity to reflect on 2016 and set new goals for 2017. We fulfilled all our 2016 resolutions/goals: Continued NAC Accreditation until November 19, 2019; recruiting Jessica Klima, bookkeeper; and rolling out the ProCare Tuition Express for 2017!
Another goal of 2016 Park’s Edge Preschool’s was to ‘Support and Embrace Diversity’. This was accomplished for staff with training on Diversity in the Workplace. We celebrated diversity among our families with a pot luck dinner the WOYC in April 2016.
2017’s focus will
encompass two great books the staff will be incorporating in our program. When I was asking the Early Childhood Leadership Credential, this past year, I was introduced to a great book, ‘Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Skills Eve-ry Child Needs’ by Ellen Ga-linsky. November 2016, the Whitnall School District introduced us to Tony Wagner’s ‘Most Likely to Succeed: Preparing Our Kids for the Innovation Era.’ We are excited to ‘share’ this valuable information with parents. Please watch for upcoming details of each training discussion about these inspiring books. You will be invited to join us for both trainings in 2017.
As always, Park’s Edge Preschool’s #1 New Year’s Resolution is to continue to offer quality rated 5-star YoungStar child care services in 2017! Happy New Year & Good Tidings,
Ellen M. Kvalheim, Director

family as they move to another state. We will miss them.
This coming year will be busy with lots of activities and venues. Please remember to bring snow
pants, snow boots, hats and snow gloves to school so we all stay
warm while playing in the snow. This month we learn how to stay warm in the snowy cold weather
with our “Mittens, Hats and Snowflakes” theme. We’ll have lots of fun with “Wacky Week” which includes a center wide PJ
Day. We’ll visit the arctic to learn about “Arctic Animals” and we’ll
learn all about “Shadows and Groundhogs” as we wait to see if
the groundhog will see his shadow
Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe we are already saying
Happy New Year, time sure has flown by.
December was a busy month for all of us. Santa stopped by for a
visit with lots of activities in each classroom. It was great to see all the children in their Christmas
best. We hope Santa brought all the presents the children (and
adults) asked for. Also, thank you to all who came to watch us for
our annual Jesus’ Birthday celebration. We had a tremendous turnout and the children did great
in our performance. We had to say a sad farewell to
our friend, Danielle, and her
this year. Our child of the month is William who likes to go, go, go. He enjoys
pushing the buses around the room, jumping and creating art but most of all, he loves to read. Some of his favorite books are, “Is Your
Mama a Llama?” and “5 Little Monkeys with Nothing to do.”
Stay warm this winter and many blessings to you and your family
this coming year.

What a wonderful December we have had! The children did an amazing job at our ‘ABC’s of Christmas’ play
as we celebrated Jesus’ Birthday. We hope
everyone had a great Christmas with your
families. We have had a very cold
December and haven’t been able to get outside as much. We would like to
remind parents that we will go outside if the wind-chill is
equal to 0
degrees or higher so please dress your child for the
weather daily. Also, please check cubbies to make sure your child has warm extra
clothing in case they get wet. We are going to be ringing
in 2017 talking about Mittens, Hats and
Snowflakes-Oh My! We will also be learning with Wacky Week, Bears & hibernation, Arctic Animals and finishing the month off with Shadows & Groundhogs. We would
like to invite parent to come in during the week of “
Wacky Week’ (1/9-1/13) to read a silly story and stay for
lunch. You can bring your own book or pick a story we
have here. Our child of the month is
Katherine. She enjoys reading books , listening to flannel stories and creating
art. Stop in and say, “Hello.” We hope everyone has a
wonderful January and very healthy and happy new year!
Ms. Beth & Ms. Emily
We have had fun playing in the snow on warmer days. Please

Happy New Year 2017! We hope everyone had a blessed Christmas season. Thank you for your kind generosity during Christmas with blessings of gifts and treats, they were greatly appreciated. We had fun at our PEP Family Christmas
Party, visiting the classroom activities and, of course, seeing Santa and telling him what we
wanted for Christmas. We topped things off with our ‘ABC’s of Christmas’ for Jesus’ Birthday
Celebration. Thank you to all our families who came out to fellowship on that brisk
December afternoon.

We will also have a full week of ‘Wacky Week’ and during

Happy 2017! I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years and great 2016. December sure went by quickly with all the
fun activities. The Christmas party was a great time. It’s always fun to see Santa and explore the classroom
activities. Our Christmas play went excellent for Jesus’ Birth-day Celebration. We had a wonderful turnout and the chil-dren did a great job. We also were very busy making par-ent gifts which I hope you loved. The children really enjoyed
making the potpourri and decorating the baskets. We are continuing to practice our letters and sounds along
with numbers up to 25. It’s very easy and beneficial to discuss letter sounds and number recognition with your
child at home. You can ask what letter objects from home start with and have children point out numbers on nutrition
labels or in magazines. Just a reminder, please restock cubbies with extra warm clothing and check folders daily. I hope everyone has a
great start to their new year.
