This has turned the hotel into what it is today; a jewel among historical hotels. This passion for history has carried on down the Holzner family ever since they bought the hotel in 1908. The original furniture has been maintained with loving care. Each refurbishment has been carried out with a sure instinct for flair which, even over an entire century has managed to retain the charming style of over 100 years ago.

On the way up to the Ritten, traditional summer resort of the inhabitants of Bozen,

you stop to admire the famous Hotel and the magical lights over the peaks of the Dolomites. Then, with high expectations, you cross the doorstep into The Holzner. Wherever your glance falls, it meets with the magic of the past! Green panelled walls, a balustrade staircase and elegant splendour. In the entrance hall, waves of nostalgia and the Art Nouveau style echo from spacious halls. You are surrounded by a pleasing silence and can feel the happiness and love of life; a sparkling silence, where the soul can open up. Dream time in Oberbozen.

At The Holzner, you will sleep as soundly as a child. Lying in comfortable old-fashioned

beds under flowered bedclothes, you immediately feel years younger – dreams can only be sweet. All furniture and decorations in the bedrooms are original, like the antique dressing table with washbowl and jugs from the turn of the last century. The bathrooms, on the other hand, offer all the modern comforts. In the mornings you can lie in bed and gaze out the windows to the vastness of the gorgeous alpine scenery. Many rooms open up onto sunny patios. At times, guests don’t leave the rooms in the morning until a bit later than planned; nostalgia can be a great temptress!

Do you want to quicken your appetite with a trip to the past? In the Art Nouveau restaurant

you sit on chairs by Thonet and eat with silver cutlery, dining in the elegant atmosphere of bygone years. For banquets in honor of the Emperor Franz Josef ‘s birthday, there was no better place, and no better cuisine, than at The Holzner. Though the recipes and the ingredients may have changed since then, the demands of the stomach have kept pace with that of those glorious times. The Holzner treasures and cherishes its guests with an excellent delicate cuisine which has many times over the years been assigned a Gault-Millaut toque. The tasting menu during the candle-lit dinner with delicious South Tyrolean and Italian dishes, or the tasting of quality wines from the region are the highlight of your stay.

You can use the RittenCard to use all public transport in South Tyrol for free, that includes of course the Ritten railway and cable car. The RittenCard allows you to visit 78 museums in South Tyrol free of charge, for example: the Ötzi Museum (the iceman), the Messner Mountain Museum and the Museion in Bolzano, the Living Bee Museum Ritten and the South Tyrol Museum of Wine in Kaltern. It starts with the premium kitchen: Since many years we combine alpine and Mediterranean style to the perfect blend. It distinguishes itself by the selection of the pre- ferred local and organic produce from our own herb and vegetable garden, from Ritten farms and the surrounding area. Markus Schenk is passionate about his role as head chef: you can taste and enjoy his work every day.

Head waiter Nicola Spimpolo looks to it that the friendly service leaves nothing to be desired. Already on reception you will feel what it‘s like to be our guest: Alexandra Mayr welcomes you always as warm and charming as if you were a real family member. Cleanli-ness and comfort of your room are looked after by our outstanding room cleaning team headed by our house-jewel Josefine Vigl.

Through the connection between inside and outside, you can swim directly into the spacious

outdoor infinity pool and feel like you were swimming in the middle of a clear mountain lake in the Dolo-mites themselves! The pools are Open daily 7.30 a.m. to 7 p.m., a spa basket in your room supplies you with bath towels, bathrobes and slippers.

Our sauna area is composed of bio steam bath (55-60°C), and Finnish sauna in the cabin. The saunas are open daily from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., we open on request for women already at 2 p.m..

In our pool area are two rest rooms. One in the west-ern area with views of the magnificent house herb and flower garden, one in the sauna area overlooking the beautiful park and the Dolomites.

Culture – On the Ritten and in South Tyrol

Influenced by culture and history, we at The Holzner advocate increasingly culture. We offer a compre-

hensive series of events to cultivate our own culture with storytelling evenings, the exhibition of historical photos and plans. Also outside The Holzner are many cultural activities: guides city tours in the near Bolzano (traditional and on historical art), tours and concerts in the Kommende (commandery) Lengmoos, the South Tyrol Jazz Festival and much more.

Ritten

Since you will receive this year the RittenCard, you can take advantage of the excellent South Tyrolean public transport for free. So naturally the Ritten narrow gauge railway, which links the Ritten villages Himmel-fahrt, Oberbozen, Lichtenstern and Klobenstein is included. But it is not just a transport, but also a historical rarity. Built in 1907, coinciding with The Holzner, the historic little trains are still chugging over the Ritten.

Similarly, the RittenCard is valid for the Ritten Cable Car, which connects Oberbozen with the city of Bolzano in four-minute intervals and offers our guests exceptional comfort, just leave the car at home and reach the Bolzano center in pleasant and stress-free 12 minutes.

Arrivals and departuresOn the day of arrival the rooms are ready at 2 p.m.. Please let us know if you will be arriving after 7 p.m.. It is not possible to book a specific room number or floor. On the departure day, rooms must be vacated by 11 a.m..

The Maria Schnee holiday house, named after the location on which it stands, was built and

furnished to meet ecological criteria using the latest construction and building services technologies. Its 110 square metres offer plenty of room for enjoying, playing and relaxing in.

The two double bedrooms and spacious living room with kitchen are ideal for wonderful holidays. The breathtaking views of the Dolomites, a world natural heritage site, are a treat for the senses, not forgetting of course the satellite TV, DVD player, stereo system (suitable for use with iPod), phone, safe, hairdryer, bathrobes, towels, bath towels and slippers at your disposal.

The holiday house is equipped with: crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots & pans, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, Nespresso machine (including tabs). There are also garbage bags, dish-washer tabs and dishcloths.

- From the north or the south on the A22 Highway “Brenner”

- Exit the highway at Bozen Nord, then turn to the right in the direction of City Centre and Ritten. After about 1 km you will arrive at a crossroads. Follow the Ritten road signs until you are on the Rittner road that leads up the mountain. Keep on the main road until the road sign “Oberbozen” to the left.

- On the Rittner road follow the orange arrows of the hotel route.

When Hans Holzner senior took over as hotel director in 1908 together with his wife Maria, he could hardly have dreamed that, over one

hundred years later, despite several name changes and the experience of leaner times, the Parkhotel had nevertheless remained in the family’s hands throughout. The fourth generation of the Holzner family is now running the Parkhotel: in keeping with the original aims, they maintain the old traditions, look to the future, and remain competent and charming as ever.
