WEEK 3 TERM 1 Commencing Monday 10th February 2020

Welcome back to school for what will be a very busy third week of the year. This week will be highlighted by the hosting of our School Swimming Carnival, the hosting of our annual Parent Information Sessions on Tuesday evening, the commencement of 2020 Band Auditions, the completion of 2020 Kindergarten Best Start Assessments, the roll out of the Bring Your Own Device Program to all Years 3-6 Classrooms and a number of sporting opportunities for our children. It was tremendous to see so many parents and carers in the school last week to engage in Term 1 Personalised Learning Plan Conferences. These conferences (which are held termly) are extremely valuable in setting learning and developmental goals for your children for the next ten school weeks and provide our teaching staff with invaluable information to best cater for the needs of your children. Kindergarten parents will have the opportunity to engage in Best Start Assessment Feedback Conferences later in the term. We have a huge week planned at Parkview Public School. Please consider the following as you plan your week: Parent Information Sessions Parent Information Sessions for all classes will be held this Tuesday, 11th February. All interested parents and carers are encouraged to attend the relevant sessions for your child’s classes. Please note that no students should bring a device to school until these documents are returned. More information linked to BYOD will be distributed in the coming days, but if you do have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school. Kindergarten Best Start Assessments Kindergarten Best Start Assessments commenced last week and will conclude this week. During these days, Kindergarten teachers will engage in one-on-one assessment of students in a non-threatening, fun environment. A relief teacher will cover Kindergarten classes during these times. Parents of students in Kindergarten will be invited to Best Start Feedback Interviews once these assessments are completed. Friday Assemblies The first of our Friday Assemblies will be conducted this week from 2.10pm in the Hall. Every week we will alternate between a K-2 and a 3-6 Assembly with awards, reports and a showcase class all a part of the entertainment. TALKING SPORT – WEEK 3, TERM 1

LNPSSA T20 Cricket Knockout

Parkview’s Representative Cricket team has finished runners-up at the LNPSSA Cricket Knockout, hosted at the LHS Ovals last Monday.

In the opening game, Parkview were sent into bat after Narrandera PS won the toss. Parkview’s opening combination of captain Drew Browne and Jy Mawer set a solid foundation for the innings, putting on 20 for the first wicket before a sharp catch at gully dismissed Jy for 10. Drew was then joined by Ben Watson, the two adding 48 for the second wicket before Ben retired for a well made 26. Cruze Dale then joined Drew and the pair continued the excellent work of our batsman, taking the score to 84 before Drew was run out for an excellent 22, after which Blake Mawer and Xavier Chilko both had useful partnerships with Cruze as the score ballooned to 4/96 at the end of the 20 Overs. In reply, Narrandera were in trouble early, Drew and Ben backing up there excellent batting to rip through the Narrandera top order, reducing them to 5/12, with tight bowling from all of Parkview’s bowlers and some excellent wicketkeeping from Patrick Smith ensuring a 50 run win for Parkview and safe passage to the LNPSSA Final for the 8th consecutive year. Early in the innnings Parkview’s top order found the tight LPS bowling difficult to counter and were in early trouble slumping to 3/8. Cruze Dale and Xavier Chilko then set about rescuing the innings and displayed great resilience, batting for almost 10 overs and adding 16 runs for the fourth wicket before Xavier was dismissed as he attempted to lift the run rate. From there, Parkview again had a batting collapse falling from 3/24 to 9/31 including losing Cruze who top scored with a gutsy 11 off 41 balls. Salvatore Alampi and Jonah Watson then scrambled an unbeaten 6 for the final wicket to leave Parkview at 9/37 at the close of the innings.

In reply, Leeton PS needed to get off to a good start, while Parkview needed early wickets. Despite creating at least three excellent chances for wickets in the opening overs, catches just didn’t stick and despite the best efforts of the Parkview bowlers, their opponents secured the runs required for victory without the loss of a wicket.
