Part 2 Inspiration

Part 3 Baptism of Holy Spirit

Part 4 Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Part 5 Indwelling of the Holy Spirit

Part 6 Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

Matt. 12:31-32 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and

blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy

against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.

32 "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of

Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks

against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either

in this age or in the age to come.”

Term is not in the Bible

Mk. 3:28-30 “He who blasphemes against the Holy

Spirit never has forgiveness”

Lk. 12:10 “…But to him who blasphemes against

the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.”

Neglecting salvation until death

Attributing to Christ the Power of Beelzebub – 1 Tim. 1:13

Committed by those who knew Jesus personally

Commit without knowing about it – 1 Jn. 3:4

A sin like cursing, adultery, murder

Saying: “I don’t want to go to heaven”

1.

“The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is therefore to speak evil of, to reject, or to refuse to accept Him or His work as divine and then to hold Him up as an object of ridicule.”

Greek = to speak against, defame, rail, revile

English = disrespect, irreverence, sacrilege “great disrespect shown to God or to sacred

persons or things ”

2.

God spoke directly to the fathers

Patriarchal Age

Mosaical Age

Christian Age

God spoke through Moses and the prophets

Christ speaks to us through the Holy Spirit

3.

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds” Heb. 1:1-2

In olden days God spoke through the prophets

Today God speaks to us through His Son

3.

Jn. 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever”

Jn. 14:26 “But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you”

Jn. 16:13 “When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth”

3.

• Bear witness of Christ

“He shall testify [bear witness = asv ] of Me.”Jn. 15:26-27

4.

• Bear witness of Christ

• Convict the world of sin, righteousness and Judgment

“If I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”

Jn. 16:7-11

4.

• Bear witness of Christ

• Convict the world of sin, righteousness and Judgment

• Invite men to accept the salvation of Jesus

“And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.”

Rev. 22:17

4.

Through the Word of God

“Sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.” Eph. 6:17

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb. 4:12

4.

The function of the Holy Spirit in the scheme of human redemption is to reveal the will of God to the mind of man.

Matt. 7:21Heb. 5:8-9

4.

The only way God reveals His will in this Christian age is through the Holy Spirit.

“…But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit” 1 Cor. 2:10

4.

It is rejecting or refusing to acknowledge and obey the revelation given by the Holy Spirit.

Blaspheme - speak against, reject

Refusal to accept God’s offer of salvation

Rejection of the whole system of God

5.

We cannot know the will of God without the revelation of the Holy Spirit.

We cannot be saved without knowing and obeying the will of God.

When we reject the only means by which we can learn God’s will, then we cannot be forgiven of our sins.

5.

“If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.” 1 Jn. 5:16-17

A sin that a Christian commits and refuses to repent

God is willing to forgive, but they will not repent

5.

Resist the Holy Spirit

Heart is hardened “Quench not the spirit” 1 Thess. 5:19

Spiritual eyes and ears are destroyed.

“Having ears they hear not and eyes they see not” Mark 8:18
