Social House

• Established in 2002 • Social House = department of social welfare of

the town + public social welfare centre • Purpose of the Social House: 1 office for all

social public services • For the citizens of Kuurne • Not a legal agency but a co-production

• 3 functions: – Give citizens all the possible social information – Deliver social services (counter) – If not possible to help, refer citizens to other

Extramural services

• One of the 3 departments of the Social House

• EMS: services delivered at home in order to support people that need to be cared (in particularly elderly people) in their own house or environment

Home-based care

Project ‘Hoevewijk’

• Hoevewijk = neighbourhood in Kuurne with most elderly people

• Experiment • 200.000 EUR from the county • Mission: helping the people of the Hoevewijk

to live longer in their houses and environment by matching the areas ‘housing, ‘care’ and ‘welfare’

• Goal after experiment: Local Service Centre
